what hat do you wear while backpacking?

Unless you plan to wear a wide brimmed hat everyday, I don't see a reason to wear one while you're hunting. We are talking about a very small percentage of most guy's time.

Because my pasty white ass burns like a Mutha#@*&%$. Never mind my eventual skin cancer. Hunting mule deer in Nevada in August the sun can be brutal. I just ordered one of them Shemagh things. I use a bandanna just draped over my head and neck like a sheikh a lot and its hard to tie up bandannas because of my huge head.

I normally just wear a baseball cap. Haven't really had a good sun burn on my noggin in quite some time now. I used to really like wearing boonie hats but its hard to find a good one these days. I may try and find one before elk season rolls around.

If you guys are looking for good boonies, there's a guy on eBay and Facebook that makes custom hats. Look up Slangvel. Reasonable pricing and custom orders.

slangvel kryptek recce style hat goes on after i am in place or up to my glassing point if hot. i hike up with a highlander bandanna i made. slangvels recce hats are a great hat for a bow since the brim is not in the way of you drawing back and at least for me not in the way of my anchor point. he makes them custom to the size of your head and will even customize the brim width. the brims on my recce hats are 1 3/4'' i always have a recce hat a beenie and a bandanna as well as a small bottle of scentless sunscreen. options..........

Outdoor research bucket hat works really well. Breaths well and its light weight.

I used to wear boonie hats including the Kuiu but since switched to an OR running hat that has a removable clothe that hangs down over your neck and ears. The brim of the boonie rubbing on my pack would drive me nuts, and on sunny, cold and windy days above tree line pulling your hood up over a boonie is not practical.

Just got a new Slangvel boonie in Kryptek Nomad. Love it!!!

I could have used my boonie this week, but couldn't find it. I didn't get fried, but even with 50SPF sunscreen on at the end of the day my whole head felt like it was on fire for two days. And my legs didn't look like they got any sun.
