So, I'm having a pretty stag shoulder mounted and going in this spot. I don't care for straight looking mounts and usually try to position a slight turn in a way that makes sense for a given location. This spot is tough, though. As either L or R has him looking somewhat into a wall of the staircase.

I'm thinking semi-upright, offset shoulder with slight turn, just not sure if L or R. HIS left side antler is stronger. Basically a R turn has him looking kinda down the stairs, and L looking up. Down is more open, so I'm thinking a R might make more sense... espeically if nose is down just a touch.

I also suspect that I need to keep in mind that the options for forms is probably a lot more limited than whitetails.shoulder mount spot.jpg

My artistic instinct says have him look slightly to his left. You should be able to find an elk or something online, then cut and paste into that pic to get an idea how it might feel?

Yeah. Something like this might work well. I guess looking towards the next set of stairs does make a little more sense as in fact it is more open than the wall to HIS right, the viewer's left. The first pic below appears to be square to the wall, which means animal is looking just a touch to his left.
