Hello everyone! I just started wondering about what taxidermist are charging in different parts of the US. What did you pay this year for your mounts and what state? I’ll start, here in Indiana this year I paid $650 for my whitetail shoulder mount and I paid $900 for my pheasant mount but it’s got 3 pheasants on it so we’ll say $300 a bird.

My dad just paid $995 to shoulder mount a Blackbuck in Texas.

I think that's above average for there, but it is a large volume, prize-winning shop. Only folks I'd trust with something I cared enough about to mount.

It's gone way up. Good one around here was $850 for a deer shoulder mount. Although he did my bear rug for $1200 last year, which I thought was a good price compared to everyone else I had asked. Great work too.

My dad had a guy in N Idaho who was still doing birds for $250 and shoulder mounts on deer size game for $600 but he said he had to raise prices 3 times in the last 2 years and his birds are now up to $500 and an elk shoulder mount is $1500. Needless to say I won’t be investing in much more taxidermy

A lot - I called 3 places to get my cow elk hide tanned

A - $850 (they do everything in house)
B - $550 (fleshing and ship to tannery)
C - $300-400 (fleshing and ship to tannery)

i was floored when i called the first place.

I had a bull elk done 3 years ago and that was $1500.... betting you cant get it done now for less than $2000

Sounds like I’m still getting pretty good prices locally. The average around me is about $700-$750 a shoulder mount. I get a slight family/friend discount through my taxidermist. Highest I’ve seen in my area is $900 a shoulder mount. If I kill my first bull elk this year I’m planning to spend around $1600 for my taxidermist to mount.

Got an audad done in MS for 650 after he quoted 550, but well worth it. I think he looked up what they were going for after and realized. I think he's still doing deer for less than $500.
Got two Oryx at NM Taxi now, first one I'm pay 1k, the other I'm paying almost 2k, so we'll see how this pans out. The first guy is already very hard to get a response out of. The other place seems very professional, so we'll see how both of their works turn out.
10' Gator head 550

Deer are 1000-1200.
Elk are 2000-2500.
Can be found for cheaper. All just depends on who you want to do it and how good you want it to look.

A couple years ago there was a similar thread, and I realized my taxidermist was cheap as heck, but does great work. $900 for an elk, $1200 bull moose, $600 Bighorn.......all shoulder mounts. Then last year elk was up to $1750.......etc, etc. Huge jump. But he was getting swamped.
