What do you do for work/profession?

Oil and gas industry and save the bulk of my time off for hunting season. I'm in the office and not on rigs, so I can work from the deer stand for the most part. Boss is a hunter as well, so getting time off when I have a deer patterned isnt too hard. Just text him a trail cam picture and he usually asks when im headed out to the stand.

Firefighter. Best job in the world. Would have more time to hunt (48/96 schedule with ample vacation) but I’ve got young kids and a wife. Wouldn’t trade them for anything and I still get out for a few great big game hunts a year.

Why the hell would he mean that? Pisses me off! I guess we find pricks everywhere.
Loosen your panties.
I'm a veterinarian and that's what I just finished doing after writing that post.
Never new I'd be pulling crap out of constipated cats as frequently as I have been when I was in school.

But yeah, I've got prickish tendencies too. Welcome to Rokslide

I work as a chef and love it, found a fine dining restaurant that's open only 4 days a week with sep 1-15th off every year.

Whitetail season is hard to put as many days in but now I can hunt elk every year.

I do sales & purchasing for a wholesale building materials company. It's an ok job but I get tired of the BS & conflicts of interest. I get an average amount of PTO for hunting but don't have any troubles getting the days off I need.

Engineer for a FL steel fabrication company.

love my job. I worked in FL for 1.5 years and then told them i am moving back to OR to be in the mountains. Work 100% remote looking at Mt Hood all day. I work on site in FL about 4 weeks a year.

I can dedicate likely as much as i want as I can take long weekends from Sept thru November. I am likely in the mountains hunting about 20-30 days a year. I never feel caught up, so i dont take all the vacation i even have available. what a dumbass!!

I’m always curious what everyone on Rokslide does for a living and how it impacts your ability to hunt.

A few questions for the group:
  1. What’s your job or profession?
  2. Do you enjoy it overall?
  3. How much time are you realistically able to dedicate to hunting each year (days in the field)?
  4. Does your job help or hurt your hunting opportunities?
Some careers seem to allow a ton of flexibility for hunting seasons, while others make it tough to get away.

Interested to hear what different paths look like and how guys balance work with time in the mountains along with various tradeoffs.
