I apologize for the long post but this is somewhat therapeutic. Loading for PRS style matches nearly ruined me, it was probably the painfully slow Chargmaster and I only had one, but I was able to pull myself up by the boot straps and load a couple hundred rounds of 223 over the last few evenings out of necessity.
I was down to five rounds of 223, 50 grain SXSP split between an AR and Howa Mini magazines. I shoot a lot of raccoon and other vermin on the farm thanks to a couple Australian shepherds and a young Airedale. I've been trying to simplify lately and decided to use up some odds and ends powder and bullets.
The big bags of fully processed Lake City brass looked awfully tempting but I'm a thrify horder and had well over 10 different lots of various brass I'd saved over the years ranging from pre-Nato headstamp to Fiochi in quantities from 20 to 100+. Of course only a couple lots didn't need trimmed to length so I processed the long ones with a Lee trimmer and Dewalt.
The plan was to load a bunch of general use ammo that'll work up to a 14 twist and not worry about losing brass. We'll see how that goes as I've grown fond of this brass after our time and commitment together.
Anyway, I had a bunch of Sierra 50 gr Blitz so I emptied decades old partial jugs of H335, Accurate Data 2230-C, and BL-C2.
It was an absolute joy running those ball powders through the flimsy Lee Perfect powder measure vs the slow grind of the Chargmaster. Checking every 10 drops or so, the Lee was only off 0.1 grain a few times.
So, thats what I did in the reloading room recently after several years of inactivity, sans getting my son's 6mm Creedmoor brought to life last fall.
I still have several partial boxes, bottles, and cans of various powders and bullets to use up before I can touch my lifetime supply of unopened big jugs and boxes.
