What did you do in the reloading room today?

I was bored so I tumbled some 308 brass and weigh sorted about 1400 projectiles. Took...a long time. Often I find this to be a wasted effort but this time I found a fair amount that were significantly underweight compared to the rest (not going to name brand because I got a smoking deal on them and I think they might have been factory seconds or something). Glad that these are now able to be delegated for fouler shots etc.

Did up two ladders of 7RM (150 & 175 ABLR w/H1000) and ~200pcs 94gr frangible 9mm. Been a minute since I shot pistol. Hopefully I can get out tomorrow.

I discovered that random range brass is a poor choice when loading .38 spl wadcutters. A bunch bulged, and I had to resize. I think it has to do with variations in brass thickness near the head.

I’ll stick with Starline brass from now on, as I’ve had no bulge issues with it.

I ordered a Lee factory crimp die for future case bulge problems.

If I shot a ton of 9mm I’d probably buy most of it. For me loading it is something to do at the bench when everything else is done.

For now I do. I’m still reloading with components from pre-covid. Single sleeve primers I was paying just over $5.00 and plated bullets i was paying $27-$28 per 500 round box. I had a few 8lb jugs of powder and using range brass. When I’m done with what I left it wouldn’t pay to reload 9mm so I’ll just buy it in bulk.

Played with the 280ai today. It's been riding bench for about a year + since I built a full custom Bat/Bartlien 6 creed. Now that hunting season is on the back end of season I felt like playing with a mono option.

Loaded 10ea 150 cx on top of RL23, H4350 and 4831sc

Shot 3-4 round strings and waited 3-5 mins then between powders 15 min cool off period

The 4350 gave me .37 mean radius for 10 shots
-std dev was 9

The 4831 was very close but 1 round went and messed things up.
-std dev was 17

The rl23 was ass and while velocity was great, it needs to be dropped most likely. I'll save it for another day

Gonna shoot a 30 round group of the 4350 and see if I have a winner.

Primed some 06 brass. Loaded 3 cases for testing to see if previous accuracy repeats at 25 yards.
Primers were backing out of nickel brass so straight brass now to check.
Tried the Lok tite method of seating bullet in fired case waiting for a good cure.
Older Savage 110 06 has always had a tight chamber it seems.
Seating depth testing has had best accuracy @3.09 best I can measure with just a caliper.

Edit: Lok tite test came back 3.31

I got a new 6 creed. Did some load development with 108 ELDM, H4350, starline and lapua small rifle primer brass. This gun definitely is not picky. 4 powder charges and all shot great. 40.5 grains 10 shot group(2977 fps), 40 grains 10 shot group(2948 fps) 39.5 grains 5 shot group(2925 fps), and 39 grains group(2900 fps)
I’m zeroed with some different factory loads with 105 bergers, so that’s why my groups are high.

Question: Do high volume ammo companies have different brass for different factory ammo? For example: is Hornady Match brass different from American Whitetail, or Federal GM brass different from Fusion?

My home shop is growing to accommodate what We are doing with LS Armory.

Yesterday, I assembled and fired up my new Dillon 750. Cranked out 100 rounds of 22 creed. Had a few user errors with the learning curve, but by the end I was cranking.

The press was on sale at Scheels and someone on here mentioned that one of the shopping apps gave like 24% cash back. The cash back will pay for the case feeder. Besides powder and bullets on hand, I ordered another few thousand dollars of stuff for testing. 2026 will be an interesting year for me.

I am starting off with 4 quick change tool heads and powder dispensers to set up permanent loads for testing of 22 creed and 6 creed barrels, and other tool heads to play with different loads. I picked up some ball powder to throw some loads and will hand throw other loads.

The progressive press is a whole different experience. Loading was a bottleneck when I was shooting too much ammo to run through a single stage press.

Loaded 60 rounds of 7-08 to have 100 on hand. Gonna load as many 25-284 as I can with remaining H1000, and then may try some n560.

I picked up a new dillon 550 about a decade ago in a yard sale for DIRT cheap, finally moved back into a space where I could set it up about a year ago. Hawt dayum are dillons a game changer

Prepped 100 pcs each of new Alpha 6 Creedmoor, and ADG 7 PRC brass to load up some test loads today and try to get out to shoot soon. I have always just ran new brass over an expander to even everything out, and load it up.

First time using Alpha brass, seems very uniform and high quality. It does have extremely tight necks for new brass, I ran them over a .241 mandrel and it was a fair amount of force to open them up. Seems like good brass though.

Second time using new ADG and this time I'm less than impressed. My 6.5 brass was near perfect, but this 7 brass is atrocious. Lots of deformed necks, uneven neck lengths, and pretty loose. A .281 mandrel would barely touch the largest deformities but luckily I had a factory ball for 7mm in another die set to round them out. I'm not too concerned on first firing and breaking in a new barrel, but I'd be pretty pissed if this was a new lot of brass for a known rifle.

Not sure about others, but Hornady is the same for all ammo lines in a given cartridge.

Shot the 06 today testing couple of loads with Sierra 180 RN for groups. Still no consistency with the surplus 4831.
I had loaded 3 rounds up with W748 and they shot well.
Load some more up later today with W748 and play with the lengths.
Shot the new 223 savage 110 trail hunter again to get rounds thru the barrel @120 so far and it seems to be shooting the Speer 50 grain tnt better, when my old eyes cooperate.

As the year comes to a close, I'm rooting through the shelves to see what's there, what needs to be processed, and what needs to be loaded. Today I discovered a stash of 9 .416 Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bullets I had from an experiment years ago. I don't shoot that bullet anymore (solely due to the positively eye-watering cost), so I loaded them up for some practice with Reloder 15. Cleaned another box off the shelf.
