Despite not feeling great from a cold, I had a productive day in the reloading room.

Finished trimming, tumbled everything, then I loaded up 1 to 3 boxes for 4 different rifles/calibers.

I may end up loading 50 more brand new brass for my wife’s 300. Then I’ll probably wait until I shoot more 6.5 to reload that entire batch of brass too.

Finally got to where I could re-mount my presses on the new benchtop. Not yet to the point of actually, y'know, loading anything, but getting there.

Loaded a batch of .45-70 using 24 grains of 2400. Half were loaded with 350 gr Berrys plated FN, and the other half with 405 gr Missouri Bullets Coated LFN. I've been looking for a use for 2400 since I didn't enjoy the giant fireball produced by my 3" .357 revolvers. Turns out this load in .45-70 makes for a nice accurate plinker that is close to .454 Casull velocities. I plugged all the data into QuickLoad, should be in the 18-20 ksi range. I'll probably bump it up to 30 grains 2400 at some point.

Pulled down 22.250 ammo loaded in 2009. Had the hammer banging hard to pull em.
still playing with bluedot reduced loads but no luck yet but the barrel is burnt bad so it may not work well. I tried 12-17 grains and got flat primers at 17 an occasional stiff bolt lift so quit and groups were not improving so went the other way and loaded 10-13 grains but windy today.

I unsiezed the four bolts on my viper barrel vise…..those tikka barrels can be tough!

Just need a tap and die to clean up the threads and we’re off.

Started sizing 100 lapua cases in preparation of my stock arriving so I can finally go shoot my 300prc.

Other than that I was looking at auto tricklers, brass trimming setups and timblers online. The $100 basspro gift card I got for Christmas is going to end up costing me some money. Any recommendations on those? Looking at the Franford trickler and tumbler. Still undecided on the brass prep station. The Frankford looks good but I see the 3 way cutting head for the RCBS trimmer and that looks like a time saver for sure.

That’s a good feeling! As far as your trickler I’m a bit out of the loop on the newer stuff out today. I bought an AutoTrickler V3 and have not looked back. I’ve been very happy with it but it wasn’t cheap. I have heard good things about the newer RCBS powder dispensers so you might take a look at those also.

Over the last 20 years I have learned alot about the 650 dillon... often the hard way. I really do like them for pistol rounds though. I use a lyman turret press for rifle reloads and a RCBS Grand for 12 ga.

I run a Dillon 550 for 223 or 308 type loads because it gives me a little more control at a slower speed for my preferences. I felt like I had a little less control with 650 for quality rifle rounds.

What’s your 257AI load?

Plinking load is 48gr hybrid 100v with a 100gr Sierra- mild load, shoots really well.

Hunting load is 46gr Varget under 90gr Absolute Hammer. 3250ish from an 18” barrel.

Hmm.

• Finished converting some rust on my new-to-me, 1948 vintage Remington 722 baseplate to blue.
• Installed some hardware on my new 1903a4gery stock.
• Annealed some 223 brass. Like Kyle, did not start a fire so - win.
• Continued the never-ending process of prepping 223 brass (clean primer pocket, trim to length, chamfer inside and out, deburr the flash hole if necessary, swage the primer crimp where needed).
• And one of my shop cats wanted some attention, so he sat on my lap and drooled while I petted him and talked about my summer shooting plans. I got the feeling he didn't really care, though.
