What did you do in the reloading room today?

I loaded

10 .22-250 AI with 80 gr. Berger VLD Target and RL-26.

20 6.5cm with 147 ELD-M's and N550.

25 6.5 PRC with 156 Berger EOL's and N568.

24 7mm RSAUM with 180 ELD-M's and N555.

The 22-250 AI and 6.5cm were loaded on a Dillon 750. The 6.5 PRC and 7mm RSAUM were loaded on a Dillon 550.

All powder charges were dropped with an AutoTrickler.

I was on call so couldn’t go anywhere. I loaded 30 boxes of 1oz 12 gauge for sporting clays. Cleaned and pepped some 308 30-30 257 bob and loaded 40 rounds of 30-06 with 180 grain Nosler Partitions and Ramshot Hunter. It was a good day

Well, I loaded up 20 for test tomorrow.


While chamber checking some brass and going over things I noticed the reason the loaded rounds had resistance was because primers weren't fully seated (cheap RCBS hand primer and new ADG brass), and also noticed my UM rings have scooted forward.. SO, reinstalled with a recoil pin, and torqued with an ugga from an M18 impact.. (kidding..).


So there's a couple tests going on now, going to check zero with 10. Half of which are loaded and pulled brass/bullets that had light resistance seating, half are new brass/new lot of bullet (visibly different colored tips) that took some force to seat. Other 10ish are to verify at long range with half the brass preloaded with the necks stretched, half new.


Last weekend this rifle and combo shot a .6" 10 shot group with an apparently moving optic. Feel free to post predictions on the result of this monstrosity of events..

First 9 shots.


Meant to go 1 click up, 2 clicks left, ended up 3 as I thought I clicked it fiddling with loosening the cap on the tool less turret but wasn't sure. Confirmation group.


Gave it 1 click back right and went out to distance. Impact on a 6" plate at 560, then out to the rock. Measures 1 MOA tall x about 1.5 wide in the reticle at 860.


Held left edge as there's typically at least a 2-5mph variable wind from thermals going left to right (W to E) up the draw. IMPACT!!


Done deal!

Measuring max COAL for various hoarded .358 bullets in the new .358 Norma build. It has helped me get a good handle on where the lands are in my rifle. Everything logged for future reference, of course.

I'm a Rokslide newbie, but you will figure out soon that I'm one the most OCD hand loaders on earth.

After I have my max COAL measured against both the lands and the magazine box, I select the heaviest of my brass and inject a dummy round full of water through the flash hole on each. It is not distilled water and most are at least once fired brass, but it gets me another data point.

Those actual water capacities for each bullet in my heaviest cases are then used to set a QL profile for the bullet.
Then I use QL to help with powder choices, favorite load densities, starting loads for ladders, etc.

It sounds like a PITA, but it's one and done forever for that bullet in that rifle.

Finished up the dbl check of powder charge, cbto, and neck tension leaving everything as it was before the barrel cut except adding .3gr powder.
Cleaned the barrel and shot a 200 zero with two sighters. I feel like I'm not getting behind the rifle the same every time and getting a flyer once in the while.


Drove down to the gong range and dialed for 600 to dbl check velocity, shot one, gave it a click and shot 4 more.



Loading up some more and will dbl check zero on the Mark 4HD.

Been shooting some PRS matches and loading 6 creed like it's going out of style. My last match I tried 108 eldms and I wasn't real impressed as it took a lot to true them compared to my normal 108 Bergers.

I got a new barrel, new stock and some new alpha brass. Loaded up 100 112 match burners to break in the barrel and as soon as my Dtacs show up, I'll load 50 of those to start load dev.

I can understand that. I spent a good numbers of years only bow hunting as a young man. I still will sneak in a couple bow hunts every year but spend more time gun hunting these days mainly due to the fact that I don’t get to spend as much time in the woods as I used to.

I’m pretty bummed, but the sad state of affairs in my freezer just makes going for my best odds of success (Haul rd Caribou) make more sense that a low odds moose hunt.

I loaded up some test groups from a 300 yard ladders test performed last week.

APR rifle in 338 edge throated for VLDs.
265 LazerSF at .020 off the lands.
H1000 at 91, 93, 93.5 and 94.
ADG brass and F215Ms.

Retest at 300, 80 deg calm wind.

That first group had a wild left flyer which doesn't make sense, shot felt perfect. I tossed that piece of brass away.

The middle 2 groups had me puzzled. After looking at my set up I believe I had the rifle too far foward and balanced in the forearm bag. It's a long heavy barrel and a very light stock making it muzzle heavy. It appears to have been tipping.

I adjusted the rifle rest and shot the final group flat at 1.2 inches.

I'll retest again but I'm quite sure it was me causing the vertical.
I'm not too concerned. The 93-94 changed groups are all about the same vertical above the target if you take the average. Also, very close in velocity. Proper form seems to have corrected that vertical but it will be retested next week.

I couldn’t pass up Vortex Crossfire rimfire scopes for $107ea. So I replaced 2 old scopes, 1 on a Ruger 10/22 and the other on a Browning T-bolt. Plinked for a while with the wife and walked them in pretty quick.

Prepped and primed 50 243 brass for a range trip this weekend.

Started off with 40 new Lapua 6.5 Grendel cases. Turned the necks, then sized them down. What I ended up with was .22 ARC. Primed them with CCI 450 primers, charged them with N550, then seated 88 gr. ELD-M's. Cool cartridge that .22 ARC is.

Interested in how this goes… I tried 550 with 88s in mine and it was really accurate, but a little slow
