What did you do at the range today?

New irons - installed and sighted in these Ultradynes. Took them out to 200yds, and enjoyed them. They're excellent.

Part of the theory behind them, is you essentially have 4 concentric rings for your eye to reference off of, making alignment quick and easy, while just putting the target inside the center-post's aperture. There's a balance I've always been fighting with irons, between wanting a super-fine front for accuracy, and a bigger front for easier acquisition at speed and in low light. Haven't shot these in low-light yet, but it's an excellent blend of speed and accuracy.

Yesterday we did the walk through course. Everyone shot fairly well, despite the wind. Everyone is continuing to improve in shooting as well as being a spotter.

Today I shot 42 prairie dogs while dragging the hayfield.

Started working loads in my Howa mini 6ARC. 107 TMKs atop Leverevolution is averaging 2709 fps and printing groups around .6-.7 in

Just messing around. Saturday I spun a Preferred 22CM 18.75” barrel on my 350 Legend, borrowed my 6.5 bolt and put on UM rings with an SWFA Ultralight BDC. Test run, the rifle is not in its final configuration but that’s what I had on hand. 6lbs 10oz no ammo.

Eyeball bore sight at 25, fire one shot and was on paper. Fired one more at 100 to verify still on paper.

Fired a 3 shot group and had my friend also shoot a 3 shot group. Eight rounds averaged 3105fps for the HP 80gr ELD-X. Adjusted windage over to the right and fired at the 350 and 450 yard steel a few times. Lucky guesses on the BDC. Missed the first 600 steel and hit the second.

Will see what the final set up ends up being but definitely will be interesting moving forward. More so hunting than target for me but will test it out for sure once I get finished.

Had a 223 load I wasn’t thrilled with. 75Eldm with Xbr 8208. Had probably 60 rounds left. Worked on shooting off my pack seated and prone, then moved to tripod work which is very new to me, but seated was pretty easy to get a stable position. 10” plate @ 322yds

Laddered up the charge in the 6 ARC another grain to see if I hit pressure. No signs of pressure and that 107 TMK is at 2773. We'll see if it still groups.

Today I managed to find a bullet / powder combo my contender likes. 50gr vmax, 21gr of h322. Sd of 10, 100yd target. Flyer was me, its a 4x scope.

I had a fun trip to the range today. It was quite hot out (in the 80s).

I started off testing out some Norma Golden 6.5 CM in my Sauer 100. That was the only box of factory ammo I had purchased, but had not tried.

It shot about like I have come to expect from this rifle, but I decided to go ahead and finish off the half box. With the mirage, I had to swap out the suppressor or wait a while. So, I swapped over to the OG 6.5 and shot the rest of that box.

I literally dropped one round and it rolled forward of the firing line and into a crack. I had to fish it out later, so there are only 9 in this group.

Then I went ahead and shot the rest of a box of Hornady 140-grain ELDMs. I think that’s one of the best groups I have gotten from this rifle.

After that, I did the same with the rest of a box of Federal.

After all that, I took my trainer over to the 300-yard range and practiced transitions and shooting from field positions. That went very well, except for the first four that I tried shooting from seated unsupported without taking off my backpack. They didn’t work very well (1/4 hits). The dudes next to me on the range were impressed when I went 26/26 shooting prone over my backpack, prone with bipod, and seated with bipod (shooting 8” steel at 300). It was a good day.

Another hot and beautiful day at the range. I started off seeing how well I shoot my Tikka T3 .223 with different suppressors. Not much difference between them. This was all with the Frontier 5.56 62-grain FMJ. I’ve shot some great 10-shot groups with that ammo. It flies out of my 16.5” barrel too, right around 3105 FPS.

All groups were fired ten at a time (i.e., 10 through each, then let the barrel cool, then fire ten through each in reverse order).

In between the two groups, I shot my T1X and CZ 457 standing and prone over backpack. The dots are 0.5”. The colored circles are 3.5”. Range is 50 yards. I fired 25 per target today.

After that, I went to the 300-yard range with the Tikka T3 .223 and four magazines of ADI 69-grain. I did transition drills going from standing to shooting position, then firing a pair as quickly as possible at the 8” steel. Each drill begins with rifle in hand, condition 1, with turrets zeroed out. I use my binocular harness as the rear rest.

Standing to prone over backpack (300 yards):
10/10

Standing to seated with long-legged Spartan bipod (carried on pack) (300 yards): 10/10

Standing to prone with short Spartan bipod (carried on binocular harness) (300 yards): 10/10

Standing to seated, unsupported (200 yards): 7/10

Prone over backpack with binocular harness as rear support is such a great position. It might be the most useful thing I’ve learned on RokSlide.

But, since I don’t always carry a backpack, I really need to work on my other positions more. Especially seated unsupported and offhand.

The other thing I would like to do is practice doing it smoothly and slowly. I’m relatively quick right now, but I definitely move more abruptly than I would in a real 300-yard hunting scenario.

Bought some 75gr ELD-M a while back not realizing that they were too long to mag feed and they had been sitting on the shelf since. Finally got around to get a mag that allowed longer COAL. It was a good purchase!

Shot about 35 rounds from the tikka 223 from about 330 yards to 477 yards. Shot the Staccato P a little and some subs through my PCC. Nice day here

That’s a solid load, another member turned me onto that exact combo.

Ran out after work to get this guy sighted in. I heard the AOS plates have a tendency to work loose, so used a healthy dose of loctite380.
Tenicor velo lux was a perfect fit.
And the KC customs “roll trigger” is . I found out he’s one of the same guys who built MEUSOC 1911s.

After that, I worked on some timed USPSA footwork type drills from concealment.

I’m never going to shoot anything other than the cheapest .22 LR in my rifles.

Whatever this latest batch was (it came in a can), it wasn’t particularly good.

Continued to work on positional shooting. Still working through some issues post neck surgery that are making me change some muscle memory. Coming along, looking forward to a little more melt off so I can get off the square range. Definitely easier to shoot Rokstock tikkas than my 257AI in a Manners.

If you have a Scheels near you, they have a giant 1900 count Scheels branded box of 40gr federal standard velocity.

In my cz457 it grouped just as well as Eley target and SK match at 50yds.

It’s clean burning, and reliably cycles my 22lr handguns

Significantly cheaper too than Eley or SK too.
