Mule deer taste great, just like antelope, aoudad, elk, whitetail, hogs, chukar, huns, etc. Doesn't matter if they eat sagebrush or alfalfa.

I've shot them from the sagebrush to the high country. As long as I care for and age them, I can't tell the difference. I really can't.

Pressure cooker can tame any toughness. I've had elk that it's was the only way to make it chewable. I've been loving the insta pot does simplify things.
I shot this buck during the rut and worried about how the table fare was going to be. Even the wife commented on how tasty the meat was. Guess you never really know till you take a bite.

Between my wife and I we've taken six mule deer from the plains and desert and all have been phenomenal table fare. I'd even go so far to say I prefer mule deer over whitetail.

Sooo, to reiterate, my wife and kids have been happily cooking and eating whitetail venison for 25+ years. But I would like to hunt muleys again.

Whether you prefer mule deer, how to take care of meat, or how to cook it, wasn't really the question. My question was, is there a difference in the flavor of muleys that have been eating different things. That's all. Thanks.

Many of the mule deer by me have a varied diet traveling between sage flats and scrub oak eating all manners of grass along the way, many I'm sure eat at the dairy all day buffets dotted all around the land. Mine and my brother in laws taken 70 miles apart both were fantastic and talking to his family that's how they all taste. Both hung for 3 days. If there is a bad mule deer in my opinion it may be an anomaly and not the norm.
