What are the basic precautions we need to use during a optic glass cleaning? Which one is more good to use small brush or pen? Suggestions please.

Blow off the optic with a blower (Bulb style or compressed air used safely) to remove any grit

Lightly brush off the optic with optics brush, to remove anything the blower missed

Put lens cleaning fluid onto a micro fiber or other lens cleaning approved cloth (do not apply liquid directly onto the optic)

Gently clean in a circular motion

I've been gently rinsing the lenses of my Leica binoculars and Leupold rifle scopes with water (no pressure). Is that a bad idea? I'm afraid to touch them with a brush or anything else.

I would be especially cautious about using compressed air. I tried this recently and some of the liquid chemical came out which seems to have blemished the coating on the lens. I don't see the blemish when looking through the binos but I can see the mark when looking at the objective lens. :cautious:

I remember my dad (who built guns for the hardware store back in the early 50s) once said, "always use a camel hair brush". I haven't seen his since 1975 (or one since) ;)

Lense pens are dangerous for my optics. The brush on it is fine but the capped end can get abrasives trapped in it. Never use one on a questionable dirty lense.

That will clean/polish off. I’ve seen that in CRC Duster compressed air. Fog the lenses with your breath and polish, it isn’t oil, it dries on.

Just my opinion and way of doing things but always start with a blower to get dust out. Any dust that won’t come off with a blower is removed with a very delicate brush. Then I use Zeiss lens cleaner and gently rub in clockwise motion.
If you keep lens caps on your bins or keep them in a chest harness make sure to get any debris out before returning bins to it

Same for me. Run water over the entire optic in the kitchen sink and blot dry lenses with a CLEAN SOFT cloth.

DONT use canned air. I got the can too close to my binocular lens and it froze an area and ruined the coating. I had to send them in to be replaced. I use a bulb then a brush to get all debris out. I have good luck using the zeiss wipes after that anf finish it off with a clean optics cloth. I try to keep my lenses clean and clean them as little as possible. I have not seen any scratches using the steps above.
