I'm sure they haven't, and we aren't this year.

Hmmm......I've never met anybody that can predict the weather four months in advance. Good luck.

I will just give you the old investment legal jargon......."past performance is no guarantee of future results".:D

You very well could get one of Colorado's unseasonably warm weeks that we've seen more often than in the past........or you could get one of the weeks I'm more used to that time of year. What with global warming and all........I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. I guess worst case scenario you could just sit in the cabin and drink cocoa all week.

Lol. No cocoa. We will be sipping on Whisky :D

Haha and no one is prediction weather. I am just taking their advice they offered my based off of their experiences. I am also on here taking advice from some very knowledgable and experienced people on here, who a lot are more experienced than my buddies. But, I purchased non insulated boots for a reason, and not just off of their advice, but also from people on here and other sites.

I definitely agree that you need to expect the unexpected and prepare for the worse, which I am, and which I have. I was thinking about getting pac boots before this thread. Still thinking about it, but those are not a priority of mine right now. I believe some wool socks, toe warmers, lowa tibets and gaiters will do a good enough job for the potential conditions I might face. Not doubting insulated boots or pac boots might keep my feet warmer, but there is just no plan on getting insulated boots. I will take the majority's opinion on passing on insulated boots. I am fully expecting my feet to get cold. I am fully expecting my hands, face, ears, chest, etc to get cold. Will I someday get insulated boots? Maybe. We'll see after this trip if it was something I really need, or something I can do without. But one thing for sure is that I cannot purchase another pair of boots this year. The boots I have is what I have to make due with. But, I highly doubt I will frozen feet to the point where I can't hunt with my Tibets, thick wool socks, insulated inserts, toe warmers and gaiters to mitigate any draft coming in from the top and sides of my boots.

Not questioning the effectiveness for insulated boots, but purchasing a pair this year is just not a possibility. I don't know if you noticed but I already dropped $3,000+ on gear within the past couple of months. I also have 2 vacations coming up, one of them being out of this country. So, I have to watch my money and be a bit more efficient with decisions right now. I purchased boots already. So, they will make do. I have no choice but to make them do. Once November starts to get closer and there is a forecast for that week, I might change some things and my approach, but one of them won't be to drop another $400 on a pair of insulated boots. Though, if conditions warrant, I might get a pair of <$100 pac boots. But we'll see.

Thanks for your input. You know your stuff and I am happy to hear people's knowledgable perspectives. I've learned a lot since joining this forum, from you included. But, no need to get offended when someone doesn't agree with you. Rolling your eyes is for teenage girls.

that last weather report before you turn the key off is PRICELESS.

Well ya, way too late then. More so talking about a couple weeks prior which gives me time to change some things and expedite any shipping if needed.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I really appreciate it.

I will be purchasing some gloves, neck gaiter, leggings, insulated low profile inserts, and possibly some inexpensive pac boots.

Oh ya, completely forgot about this, what do you guys think about trekking poles? Would it be a good idea to get a pair?

Trekking poles are a game changer when carrying heavy loads in my experience. If I were you, I'd snag a pair.

Last year was my first year using trekking poles and I really liked it. I would recommend giving it a try. If you look around you should be able to find some deals on them.

I have these ones I picked up for around $75 on sale. They're a discontinued model.

Amazon.com : Black Diamond Ultra Mountain Carbon Trekking Pole : Backcountry Ski Poles : Sports & Outdoors

I like the z pole style because they collapse shorter and are a little lighter. Plus you don't have to worry about the twist locks or flick locks breaking or sliding like on the adjustable style. But it's a personal preference. If you get the fixed length like mine, make sure you get the correct length. I'm 6'2" and the 130 cm is just right for me.

No offense on this end. Just feet and toes that still aren't the same from a CO hunting trip in November about 30 years ago........with insulated boots. There's a reason I hunt the archery season now. Just too many bad cold memories from those late seasons. Of course starting out from a warm cabin makes a world of difference as well. On the other hand, I've also played golf in shorts and a t-shirt here Thanksgiving week. Just luck of the draw every year.

Glad to hear. No doubt my feet aren't going to be a furnace in there. But, hopefully the boots plus thick wool socks, toe warmers and gaiters will keep it warm enough to prevent any permanent damage, or freeze to the point where it ruins my day. And I do agree that the fact that we will have a warm cabin to come home to every evening makes a difference, and I've been factoring that into my gear decisions for this trip. If we were backpacking and staying out in the outdoors, then I'd definitely get some type of insulated boots. For this trip, that is not the case and I am going to make due with the boots and set up I have, and see how it performs. After this trip, I will have a better idea what works for me and what doesn't, and what was missing from my arsenal.

Thanks for all of your knowledge and responses throughout the various threads I asked questions in.
