I really can't speak to the exact area you got the offer but I feel it would be pretty hard to go wrong in Western Montana. Where are you coming from? If I could find work there I would move.
Well let's first discuss the wind in Cut Bank. I hope you are ready for it or at least do not mind constant high wind speeds and extremely high gusts. With that said there is a large patch work of federal lands around and the game can be pretty sparse around there in the grass lands that I am sure you are referring to. With its location there can be some pretty rough patches of people as well. Upland birds may be in good numbers around there and the mountains are only a little hop from there and even though there is a lot of competition I am sure you will find game. I'm not sure where you are moving from or for what type of job, but I have known a few people who moved there to work and quickly were attempting to find a location in another office. Housing can be an issue as well depending on income and how long you feel comfortable commuting Not trying to rain on your parade, just filling you in on the little I know of the area. With all that said it does give you a doorway to some great things and you never know if you don't try. I would suggest flying out there, probably to Great Falls and making the drive up there and checking out the area along with Browning.
Cut Bank is a typical small MT town. I suspect the wind is terrible as mentioned. Elk arent necessarily out your back door but not out of reach either. Upland is probably reasonably good along with waterfowl. Considering Glacier NP is close by, the mountains are definitely home to plenty grizzly.
Ive spent a couple nights in cut bank but dont remember anything standing out. It's still MT but wouldn't be the top of my list for places to live in MT. I try to take note of possible small towns to retire in MT instead of staying in helena but cut bank isn't on my list. I could deal with life in cut bank but my wife would not like it. You should definitely visit along with your family. Some of the areas close by seem a little shady.
I live a little south of Cut Bank, I would not move there. Cut Bank is a pretty crappy town, and to access good hunting you would really have to come south towards Choteau or Augusta

I felt bad being the first person to make these statements, but I'm glad there are others with the same info and feelings. But by all means I would recommend traveling there and seeing it for yourself if you have the time. Maybe it will fit your style, but then again there are much better areas.
I have worked there and stayed motels there. It is close to a lot of great country west of there.Tthe east side of the divide there is a cold wind blown location. I don't know what you are familiar with for weather but winter temps and wind in Cutbank could be a new experience for you. I use the term wind lightly. No, I would not live in cutbank. a couple of guys have give you some politically correct hints about Browning.
Sorry for the negative information. Out of all the cities mentioned Shelby would certainly be the best. The Hi-Line can get pretty desolate, especially in the winter. I loved it when I lived in Glasgow and while my wife enjoyed it there she doesn't want to move back there even though I dream of it. Hopefully it works out for you and your family. MT is an amazing state and like all places there are unique areas. Just wanted to give you a heads up that's all. Best of luck!
Yea as the wind has been stated over and over again I will give you a solid example. If you travel to the area and look you will notice by Browning that they have barriers by portions of the train track to prevent trains from being blown off the rail, because it has happened. Also Cut Bank has a big ole penguin statue in town pointing out that it recorded the coldest temperature at some point. I can't remember the exact info, but you get the point. Either way I am not sure what job you are moving for but getting to MT is a great start and I am sure you can adjust as time goes on.
Just an update. We made the move to Cut Bank. Love it. Thanks for all the input. It may not be IN the mountains, but it sure is close! I've already found a few places to make some long weekend trips.
