Gonna be going to Montana for my first elk hunt, gonna archery unless the tag isn't filled in September. I don't have any experience hunting elk so I'm wondering what to look for when e-scouting. I won't be able to scout any before the hunt. What type of vegetation should I look for? Thick woods, Meadows. Whats something to look for for bedding and feed. Gonna try to hunt Western Montana with a general unit, but don't have any specific units picked out yet. Just looking for anything that could help with trying to understand how elk operate. Thanks

. Someone mentioned elk nut app, also look at elk 101, and I've heard good things about Roe hunting recourses also an app. get go hunt, watch randy newbergs YouTube videos on e-scouting. Google search Rocky mountain elk habitat, maybe pick up a biology based elk related book or e-book. You could also use the search function at the top of rokslide to see what responses the other 500 guys that have asked a similar worded question got. (weather it's from 2014 or last week, if it's about elk behavior its still relevant). Fill a spiral notebook with notes and start applying the info to your "spot" and see what you can come up with. And keep your cardio up in between. Good luck
