Western KS Muley Draw

Thinking about putting in this year in Western KS. Easy drive up from Texas for me. I know a great deal of the terrain up there is private. Has anyone had any luck getting landowner persmission to hunt their private land? I would certainly consider a fee if that is what it took and it looked worth it. The lower unit has the Cimarron Grasslands as public. I am sure that would be crowded.

That’s a tough tag to draw. You may be able to get permission during the archery season especially on some crop fields. Chances of getting permission for a rifle tag are slim. The firearms season is short and most landowners are hunting themselves or have other hunters on their ground. There is lots of walk in hunting ground in western KS that provides good opportunity.

Non residents are restricted to archery and muzzleloader, but you can hunt the rifle season with a muzzleloader. The southern units have some public ground but the northern units have a ton of big walk in hunting properties. You might also be able to get access to some private land, but be willing to pay for that access
