Has anyone seen the new Weatherby 307 MZY muzzleloader yet? I see Midway USA has them coming soon although a little bit rich for my blood. Definitely a big step for Weatherby.

That’s a hell of a lot of money for a muzzy that apparently isn’t smokeless-rated, IMO.

Built on the sleek Model 307 action, the Weatherby 307 MZY, the first-ever Weatherby muzzleloader delivers next level accuracy with zero compromise. Weatherby partnered with Arrowhead Customs to integrate the revolutionary Gen2 Sealed Ignition System, which utilizes large rifle primers for consistently hot, straight-path ignition, eliminating blowback and ensuring reliable cold-weather performance with Blackhorn 209.

Featuring a PEAK 44 Bastion stock, an adjustable TriggerTech trigger, and an Accubrake DST, this is a muzzleloader designed to perform like a rifle.

Features
  • Carbon Fiber PEAK 44 Stock
  • TriggerTech Adjustable Trigger
  • Accubrake DST Muzzle Brake
  • Carbon Fiber Collapsible Ram Rod Included

A Weatherby 307 action is essentially another Rem 700 clone. With the Arrowhead ignition I'm not sure why they wouldn't make smokeless an option. The barrel shank dimensions would determine that though.

Looks like they got a lot right in this rifle but pretty expensive for what you’re getting.

Not SML rated?! And… since when has 150 grV B$209 equaled 105 grW?

I'm guessing they just want to dodge any smokeless liability. It looks no different than any of the Rem clone smokeless that are already out there. Barrel shank appears plenty long as well for a smokeless application.

Agreed

I don't see the draw unless you are just a Weatherby guy...I've never handled one but anyone think it is worth $1000+ over a CVA?

That conversation is the current information on the Hodgdon site so it's what people will use.
Yeah I understand that but that doesn’t make it correct…..they should have updated that years ago.

They are recommending users weigh powder so why not just recommend 120 grW (which happens to be approx 150 grV with the current lots of B$209).

He’s some of my data. I’d encourage you to go collect your own. Exact results will depend on your measure and technique, but the trend is clear. It’s well documented among the serious shooters that the lots have been getting heavier per unit of volume and the .75 conversion factor is very outdated.

I’ve been using mostly Lot 41 lately. I pulled out new bottles of Lots 13, 42 and 43 as well. Lot 43 is the most recent I have. These are 100 grV measured loads using a tap method and a brass TC funnel-top measure.
