Weatherby 307 feeding issues

ironworker378,

This entire thread above regarding feeding issues with the Weatherby 307 is specific to 7PRC caliber only because the PMAG® 5 AC L, Magnum – AICS Long Action magazine originally shipped with the rifle in 7PRC was for 300 Win Mag and Magpul does not list 7PRC as a specific caliber that will work with that magazine.

Due to the Magpul magazine design and the short and fat shape of the Hornady 7mm PRC 175gr ELD-X and 180gr ELD-M compared to 300 Win Mag is why there was an issue.

I have not seen anything at all regarding issues for any other caliber other than 7PRC for which the rifle is available.

These mags are designed for belted magnum cases with more taper, so I'm not surprised you're getting nose divies. The feed lips aren't allowing the front the case to rise. My suggestion is to get an accurate 3rd single stage single feed magazine for rum/prc cases and tune the lips. Or take a dremel to feed lips to widen them on the magpul. Also worth a try, see if a hawkins 3rd hunter mag will latch into the bottom metal

Edit, just did some research, it shows on the WBY page, this rifle in 7prc should ship with a MDT steel mag. Apparently they know of the problem and found a solution. Reach out to Wby and they'll prob ship you a free mag.

Mine came with a Magpul mag and I bought it a couple weeks ago.

Just saw these on Bass Pros website, and they list the same thing. The 7PRC only ships now with the MDT..... "Compatible with AICS magazines. Includes 1 Magpul® magazine. 7mm PRC ships with metal MDT magazine." So yes I would call if you havent, ya may get some free mags out of it.

Found this thread as I'm considering a Weatherby 307 in 7 PRC... What has everyone's experience been? Accurate?

Anyone know of a 3rd mag version for the 7PRC? Something more flush?

I wanted a functional 7PRC polymer magazine from the start instead of metal. I have only gotten the 5 round MDT 300WM metal magazine to feed correctly, however the feed lips needed adjusted and were not ideal for 7PRC since it would still scratch the brass during feeding before and after adjusting the feed lips.

MDT now has a 7PRC CIP LA 3 Round Polymer Magazine for sale, so I am going to order one of the magazines to see if it works and feeds better. If anyone else has tried this yet or finds a 5 round polymer magazine that works, please let me know.

Well that was a mistake, need the 3.715" length instead of the CIP 3.850" length so obviously won't fit.

MDT makes a polymer 3 rd for the 7PRC.

I have had mind for just about a year, it shoots the Federal 175 factory ammo great average 5 rd group was right at 3/4 MOA. Consistency with the Hornady ammo (174 and 180) was spotty the 180 shot decently but i was seeing a major variation in velocity and pressure in the 175 precision hunter.

Has anyone successfully used the 300RUM Accurate Mags in a 7PRC?

I’m curious on this as well. Accurate mag told me it should work but anyone with real world experience would be helpful.

Any new developments for a reliable magazine option for the weatherby 307 in 7prc? I had terrible feeding from the metal mdt 5rd. Switched to the Accurate mag 3 round for a 300 win mag and feeding is butter smooth. Unfortunately the Accurate mag drops out of the gun after every shot. At a loss where to go from here. Would love to have a polymer mag that feeds reliably and doesn’t hang below the trigger guard

I purchased Weatherby 307 Meateater in 7PRC in October of 2023.

I have tried the following magazines in the rifle with Hornady 7PRC ELD Match 180gr ammunition:

Magpul PMAG 5 Round AC L, Standard – AICS Long Action
(Sold with rifle & purchased 2nd magazine, 3rd-4th-5th rounds nose dived)

Accurate Mag 5 Round AICS .300 Win. Mag. SSSF Magazine
(Purchased 2 magazines, would not feed for me in my rifle)

5 Round 300WM MDT Metal Magazine
(Sent by Weatherby, feeds but required feed lip adjustment and scratches brass. I had to be careful to not adjust feed lips too loose and even then still scratched the brass. I would prefer not to have to make adjustments to every new spare magazines, just want it to work without adjustments.)

3 Round MDT 7PRC MDT CIP LA Polymer Magazine
(Purchased 2, does not fit since they only make 3.85" polymer and not 3.715"

3 & 5 Round Accurate Mag 300 RUM
(Just purchased and received today, both very slightly harder to load than the 5 round MDT, both very slightly more play than the 5 round MDT but no issues, feeds with no feed lip adjustment, feed lips do scratch the new brass like the MDT. I have not tried these under recoil at the shooting range yet, but I plan to do so and both feed well enough I expect they will function fine. I am not sure after use and wear if the scratching of the brass by the feed lips will improve.)

I personally still desire a 5 round polymer magazine that feeds perfectly and does not scratch the brass, but of all the magazines I have tried will stick with using the 5 round accurate mag 300 rum for now.

I really liked the rifle, but was so frustrated with the lack of decent feeding on a brand new rifle that I just never bothered to try it again for the last year and a half. Instead, I went and bought a 1906 Remington Autoloading Rifle in 35 Rem, which feeds just fine 119 years later. :)
