Savage Axis II Pro Feeding Issues

So my brother bought a savage axis II pro in 223 for a thermal rig. The gun shoots fine but the magazine is ridiculously hard to load, and won’t feed the first and third round, doesn’t matter how fast or slow you run the bolt, it just won’t feed. I’ve reached out to savage and have had no response. Does anyone have any suggestions for a remedy or possible mag conversion kit?

If it's the metal magazine you need to tune the feed lips. If you CALL Savage and give them the serial number on the rifle, they'll send a new magazine for the rifle. The new magazines are all polymer and work much better.

It came with the polymer magazine.

Back to CALL Savage and they'll want the serial number and they'll replace the magazine

I initially had some similar feeding issues with my Trail Hunter Lite (.223), but it was the older metal style magazine. I contacted Savage and they sent out another new mag free of charge. That magazine had a different finish than the original (old non-functional was deep blued, new was a matte blue) but has worked 100%... Mine are Part number 55230, and are supposed to work in both the 110 and Axis models.

I recently discovered how to disassemble the old mag, and did some tweaking to the feed lips and body, and I've got it working about 95% now... Has trouble feeding 75gr Gold Dot factory ammo, with the tiny blunt tips, but works 100% with my 80gr ELD load. I still need to tinker with it a bit more I think.

I'd start a service request here: https://service.savagearms.com/hc/en-us ... IIRC you do have to create an account with them.

I'm interested what the new all polymer magazines for the .223 look like . Wondering in the allow a longer OAL like the metal mags do (2.40" +/-)
