Waterproofness

So my Tibets are leaking like a sieve when walking through wet foliage. Granted that have been great for 5 years. This leads me to ask what have you had the best luck with as far as water proof boots?

I have either had great luck with water proof boots, or wet boots don't bother me. I haven't figure out which one yet, because I never really give it much thought. This year it rained the last three days I hunted and I even used my gaiters for the first time to try to keep my pants dry. Worked great except for the crotch high grass and foliage in that beetle kill timber.

I live and spend most of my days afield in coastal bc, we get a bit of rain here. If I want to know my feet will be dry I wear lacrosse rubber boots or similar. Everything else is good until it isn't. Yes only day trips and rarely with a pack, that's the answer I've found.

Chest high waders will keep you dry too, never tried climbing hills in them though lol.

Almost a dozen gore-tex boots in the last 20 years, all leaked in short order except my current Alaskan's which have yet to see water.

Been using a pair of zamberland 6" high boots with 8" gaters for the last month and 1/2 in some pretty sloppy rain and so far zero leaks.
The gaters are working really good too.

I asked a similar question a few months ago, it seemed like Sno Seal was regarded by most as the best product for waterproofing leather. I can tell you I personally had terrible luck with Nikwax and my Tibets on my elk hunt in September. I haven't tried Sno Seal yet but I plan on giving it a try next.

Grangers G wax and sno seal are best. I look at the gore tex as more of a backup waterproof layer. I treat mine after almost every trip and I haven't had a pair of boots leak in years.

Gaiters help. An extra dry pair of socks in camp really helps. But nothing can fix wet feet/boots.

When I was a kid cold/wet feet used to drive me nuts. Somewhere along the way I adapted webbed feet and could care less now.

I have Kenetrek's and Asolo boots that have a waterproof liner. I use Kenetrek boot wax on my Mountain Extremes (for warranty purposes) and Obenauf's LP on my Asolo's. The Kenetreks are starting their 6th hunting season and the Asolo's their 5th. I treat my boots at the beginning and end of each season and each time they get wet during the season. I've crossed creeks, rivers and have hunted wet grass and in the rain numerous times and they have never leaked. Guess I've been lucky.

My uncle in Sechelt calls them "gum boots" - if I know it's gonna be a WET hunt my Mucks are with me

Biggs, you've been lucky. I have a pair of Asolo's and they leak if it starts to cloud up. 100 yards in wet grass and it's coming in the toe box. I with the rubber boot guys. If you want truly waterproof that is the way to go. Every other boot is luck of the draw. As they get older most will start to leak as well. Currently wearing Hanwag Alaskans. This is their 4th season and they have been good up until this year. They are now leaking in the toe box as well.

Supposedly GoreTex has a lifetime warranty. I would be interested to see if they stand behind it for boots. Someone should give it a try.

I use Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP and that has worked really well for me. I just make sure that I apply it at least every week.
