Water Bladder Adapter for Filter

I'm looking at changing up my hydration setup for some upcoming backpack hunts. I currently have a 3L Camelbak and it is great for day trips, but it's a pain digging it out to refill and get stuffed back in with a pack full of gear.

What would I be looking at needing if i wanted to have a way to filter water straight into the bladder from the hose? I'm seriously considering going to a hardside hydration rig for ease of filling, and then either a squeeze filter or a steripen, but I would consider keeping the bladder if I could figure out how to refill without digging it out.

As it is now, I would have to remove the bladder and either filter straight in, or steripen in a nalgene and dump it over.

You just need a quick disconnect on your drinking line. And a matching connector coming from your filter hose. Maybe $10 in fittings. Disconnect the bite valve, plug in filter and fill the bladder. Disconnect filter and reconnect the bite valve. Just make sure that you orient the disconnect correctly to prevent it from leaking out.

I'm having a hard time understanding how you could push water in without having the lid open to let air out? Can't imagine it being that difficult to remove the bladder to fill but we all do stuff differently. I also like having the bladder out and turning it upside down and sucking any air out so I don't hear water sloshing around. Main reason I can't use nalgene etc, hate hearing the water, my big feet are loud enough.

I wouldn't think it there would be an issue without opening the lid. Like you, I will push all of the air out when putting the bladder in for the day so it's not sloshing, as long as I do not reintroduce air into the system throughout the day, there shouldn't be anything stopping me from refilling it to the original level.

The issue with repacking is trying to stuff a floppy bag back into a pack body that is compressed full of gear.
I had an Osprey bladder with a hard flat back on it that was much easier to stuff back in, but this camel back just flops.

^^^ This is correct. If you start with a full bladder (all water and no air) and drain it, or even an empty one with all of the air squeezed out. You can put water right back in as long as you are not introducing air into the system. The quick disconnect prevents air from entering as well as preventing whatever water is in the bladder from leaking out if put on the hose correctly. It works well with Sawyer squeeze type filters and the gravity type filters like the Katadyn be free. I have even used it on an MSR pump filter.

Sawyer sells the QD kit. I've tested its compatibility with source and camelbak bladders.
Not really your question, but source sells a little gland that allows faucet or outdoor tap fill through QD also.

I have a quick disconnect few inches above my bite valve. Also have a quick connect fitting on the end of my clean tube come off sawyer filter. I squeeze right into bladder without removing. It’s not hard to fill. Tough part is knowing when it’s full.

These parts are what I used. I may have had some extra parts and tubing laying around that also helped complete the job.

Thanks guys! This is exactly what I was looking for, I had seen the faucet adapter before and completely forgot about it. This is likely swaying me towards sticking with a squeeze type filter and forgetting the steripen all together.

Yes, this is what you want. Works very well if you already are used to a squeeze type filter. You don't need to open the lid or access the bladder at all.
