Wader suggestions?

I guess your footwear would depend on where you will be hunting and the time of year. I've been on 6 moose hunts and didn't use or even take any type of waders. This question would be best answered by your outfitter.

The 3 Montana moose hunts I just wore high top hiking boots, although on one hunt while I was cutting the limbs off of a pine tree for the ridge pole of my wall tent, the short handle axe bounced off the tree and cut bone deep through my White's logger boots into the arch of my left foot. I finished hunting that week wearing my camp tennis shoes.

I wore Muck boots on my Newfoundland moose hunt,and 8" Danner boots on my Northern Alberta moose hunt and my SW Alaska Brown Bear and moose hunt.

I used the Redington Sonic Pro HDZ, they have a zipper for the top half. Was definitely nice when having to take a leak or trying to cool off. I highly recommend a zipper, mine never leak and I was in almost chest deep water numerous times.

I've averaged 70-100 days a year in waders the last 7 or 8 years or so. I only wear Simms these days as it is a fact they make the best waders out there, but that is not to say that other brands won't perform up to your standard. If money is no object I'd buy the Simms G4Zs, but for me it is and even though I spend at least a day a week in them, I can't justify the cost to myself. The Freestone model are a pretty good deal as far as quality and price. I use a pair of them for moose and waterfowl. I have also used just plane jane Caddis 100$ hardware store specials and they worked just fine on several 14 day long moose float trips.

My suggestion would be to find something that has multiple layers and fits correctly and they will serve you well.

Been fly fishing for over 30 years and tried many waders, SIMMS by far is the best that I have used. Never had to send mine in for warranty or repairs but my friend had and they were awesome to deal with. Doubtful that I will every use another brand.
