Hello all, I was just wondering about your experience with pressure for modern firearm season in Washington state designated wilderness areas . Not looking for any specific wilderness just your experience. Just wanted to add, Im not talking about the high buck . Sorry for any confusion.

If I see anyone it’s the same guys I’d see during September up there. Never see an increase in general season pressure up there.

Ive read this question a couple times, but I can’t really understand what the OP is asking?

If you hunt wilderness areas during Modern firearm in Washington state . How is your experience with the amount of pressure/ hunters you see when hunting.

If you’re talking about high hunt, then I’ve had years of zero people to just a ridiculous amount. My experience has been that it follows the same general things as any other hunting spot, i.e. trails heads, roads, and weather that’ll dictate the pressure.

Seems like from the poll, that its either a complete $hit show or quite in the mountains.....
I wonder if that's not the case with every OTC/General type hunt in the west. I've always been blown away at how people will say one place is a gong show, while I haven't seen a soul in days in the same unit or unit cluster.

Is is absolutely that way every where. I’m always confused when I hear of all the non resident hate in Montana. I rarely see a person when I’m in the woods, resident or non resident alike. It’s honestly crazy and I have to keep checking the date to make sure it is in fact opening day when I’m spiked on a couple of bulls in an obvious high country basin that’s a very easy 3 mile hike into lol

You get out of it what you put into it. In the wilderness area during the high hunt there are quite a few people. General season not so much. I haven’t done the high hunt in a couple years now. Planning on going this year. The only time I see people is at the trailhead and an occasional person on the trail. I have a few small pickets that I hunt. They aren’t that far in, but access suuuucks! People are just not willing to work that hard. Pick a spot that is pure hell to get into. Ie brush, cliffy, no trail. The deer like those spots!

Depends on access, weather, fires, spot in general. I only hunt wilderness area for most part regardless mostly because thats where i like to be…Snowline and density of animals, migration route distance or just there routine to escape high weather come into play if you will see any deer per usual. If you see hikers, climbers, hunters during summer, high hunt, and for fall colors you will see all the same during general. If your free n clear all summer then same in October id say. Those that hunt the wilderness hunt the wilderness. Good luck

How has your sucess been? Are you seeing animals ?

So I know this is not about the High hunt but the high hunt was originally set up in the 60's to have some pressure on animals in country that is normally snowed out by the time the general season started.

With our early general seasons now alot of the wilderness is still open still and not weathered in. I think you might find some guys in the wilderness hunting but it won't be a ton. Ease of access and depending on the wilderness will probably determine just how much pressure you might encounter. All that being said I think that you would be able to find some solitude if you are able to find the right spot. Some of those deer may not be as deep in the wilderness as they are in mid September but those parts of the wilderness that are closer to the wintering ranges are probably going to have more deer imo as they start migrating out in the fall. Only one way to find out, commit to a spot in the fall and see what happens!!

I saw one guy on the wilderness last year and I killed a nice little 4x3. We were off trail though, but only like 4 miles deep so nothing too crazy. If you want to get away from guys, go off trail or a trail that is steep and nasty. That is at least what I have found.
