Looking for real-world experience with VPA 3 blade on elk. Wondered about lower profile would have good penetration and/or pass through. Anyone using on Elk?

I've shot them a fair bit but haven't shot game with them. I shoot broadheads like testing rifle loads. As far as penetration concerns - I've shot elk front to back with shorter stubborn heads. Get them sharp and flying true and you won't have issues.

Solid 100 grain 3b is their best model. The new AC hole punch looks wicked though..

They're fine. When I shot a slower Mathews I preferred a coc 3 blade. Had no problems with pass through on elk. Flew great. Easy to resharpen.

But dang they rust fast. Tried wax and M1 and couldn't resolsve the issue. Have since moved on.

Friend of mine has shot 5 or 6 elk with 125 grain three blades and probably even more javelina with them. I don’t think he has even tried a different head since he went to them

My only real problem with them is that they have been a very fickle head to keep flying good. They are great for broadhead tuning because if anything is wrong, they will show it

I have used them in 125gr, so can’t speak on any other model, and 200gr with recurves. They do rust easy, but treat them with purple magic chain lube as needed, and it’s easy enough to stay ahead of

Flight is what would keep me using them with compounds, but my sample size is pretty small

Killed dozens of animals with them, including elk. Watched a couple others shot with them. They are an excellent choice. One of the toughest, if not THE toughest, heads out there.

I had no such problems at all.

Have had favorable results on elk. The last I shot with them was slightly quartering to me. Broke the knuckle joint on the front shoulder (point made from the humerus and scapula) and traveled through to pinwheel the front lobe of the left lung, heart, and opposite right lung.

Elk went 20 yds and tipped over.

I use the 100 gr for a smaller cut radius.

You aren't going to have penetration problems. Shoot a bigger cut diameter.
Yeah I think bow set up is enough. I haven't gone down the 2 blade, single bevel fixed blade.

I do however, go back and forth with BH diameter, seems like a lower profile to slip around a rib or whatever, might go deeper than a wider blade.

Ribs cut real easy. So does the thin part of the scapula. I'm a little lighter and slower than you, my favorite elk head is the rage trypan.
