Outdoor edge replacement blades suck!

So I don't know if i got a bad batch of blades or what. When through 3 blades skinning and quartering my spring bear this year. Usually one blade is more than enough for bear or deer size animal. Might go through 2 on an elk. Im pretty darn careful. I never cut hair and I deal with joints at the very end of the process. Anyone else experience something similair?

Never. I skinned, gutted and boned out a cow moose with a single blade.

I should note, this was 10 years ago.

Yes, I noticed the same thing this year. Bought a bulk pack off Amazon (outdoor edge brand) and they were horrible. Went and bought a pack from a store and same thing. I can usually clean 3 whitetails before switching blades and I was going through 3 per deer this year. It’s on the shelf until I hear they fix it.

Same here. We used 2 or 3 on a deer here in MO. We ended up switching to our milwaukee razor knifes and the fixed blade knives we have. Was very unimpressed.

I've noticed how long a blade lasts can be very inconsistent, but I thought it was me dulling it on bone. Now I'm second-guessing and wondering if I've had bad blades too. I feel like sometimes they last a while and sometimes not.

I had the same problem last year. Went thru 3 blades on an elk, will be switching to a fixed blade this year.

Definitely had a batch last fall, bought of Amazon, that were absolute trash. Amazon suppliers have been known to ship counterfeit products (even a bee suit my brother bought).

I have some new blades in actual Outdoor Edge packaging I will try before writing them off for good.

I gave up on these death traps and just use my Benchmades. Got through an entire mature cow elk with my Bugout, no touchups. Usually I use that with another skinner knife, but if I'm careful it'll do the job just fine on it's own. I carry a cheap pull through sharpener if field touch-ups are needed.

Outdoor Edge has never been in the same conversation as Havalon for replacement blade sharpness out of the package or how long they hold an edge.

I haven’t bought any blades recently for either but going back 10-15 plus years this has always been the case

I think the quality is really hit or miss. The pack I have from last year is just OK. I now bring a tiny ceramic hone to touch up the blades as I go. I can get through a couple animals on the same blade that way.

I musta got lucky. I love mine. I haven’t bought blades in a few years, haven't needed to. I can usually do 3-5 deer before replacing and I’m not very careful, could probably do more if I was. I’ve loved it since I got it.
