Vortex Viper Hs vs Vortex Viper Hd

Any recommendations on which one specifically?

Probably the 3-9x. They sell pretty quickly, but have been popping up regularly lately.

I have the 6x and love it. It would be fine for me at your described distances while some might feel it is a little high for close shots.

I also have the 1-4x but haven't used it a ton. The 1-4x is probably a pretty solid magnification range for your average shot distance.

That said, it's probably easier to just buy a Trijicon for a quick option.

I really like the looks of the credo and huron. I'm kinda leaning towards the credo since it has the lighted reticle. It looks like eurooptic.com has really good deals on them.
Is there a specific reticle you've used with the credo or huron you like/prefer?

The 3-9x40 I've used the red mil square and it was perfect balance of quick acquisition at low power but enough holdover detail at high mower to measure for shot placement or holdover.

The 2.5-15x42 comes with the mil center dot reticle. It's a little more fine than the 3-9 but it lights up perfectly. Trijicon's illumination really is impressive.

I've used FFP scopes and understand Why they are preferred around here, but for my use case I find SFP scopes to be preferable, and trijicon has some of the best in terms of cost, quality and features.

bought a 3-9x40 Huron last year and it is a decent scope if you dont need to look into shadows the very first/last minutes of shooting time.

the better glass of the Credo might make enough diff to see last/first minutes. I dunno, went another more expensive route.

BTW, i use a bushnell Banner 4x scope to shoot 200 yards w one of my rifles. Viper is a better scope, reticle is fine tho.
There no difference in the glass between the Credo, Huron, Accupoint and Ascent. It's exactly the same. That's straight from Trijicon. The only difference between them are the feature sets.

Whatever you pay for vortex at a store the scope is worth about half that. Vortex builds a couple warranties into their pricing. A $1000 vortex is probably a $500-$750 scope from another brand

Glad i didnt spend any more money on Trijicon then.

So all of those lines are built in the same factory?
Yes, same factory, same quality, different specs/features depending on model. I got the same answer from Trijicon CS. I have two 2.5-15, one 4-16, and one 5-25. Have not had any issues in low light, dial and return to zero, very clear glass. Might not be the best but, damn good and im not worried that my rifle wont be zeroed. Ive had a 2-10 viper hs on an ar for four years, killed a couple hundred coyotes with it, no issues, ok glass.

Cant go wrong with any of them, buy for your use case and budget. Used vortex viper hd $400-500, use credo $750-850, used tenmile $900-1000 (price will vary based on mag range) glass is pretty equal, trij wins durability

I have a Viper HS 2.5-10x44 scope on my 308. Its awesome. No issues. I had another Viper HS 2.5-10 on my 30-06, but I upgraded to a HS 4-16x44. Its also awesome. The HD versions have better glass, but its not a HOLY SH*T difference. The HS scopes have more eye relief. The HD has a slightly larger eyebox. Both are very easy to look through at any magnification. My cousin has the HS 4-16x44, and fell down a small land slide. His scope got smacked on the way down. He checked it and his zero was still perfect.

I also have the Maven CRS 1. Its a great little scope. To my eyes, the glass is not as good as crisp as the Viper HS scopes. But, its still pretty great for the price. Eye relief is pretty short and at full magnification, its a little worrisome how close your eye is to the scope. I put it on my .22 LR

Vortex is a great company. My friends and I have had no issues with the Viper line of optics.

Hope that helps!

This happens with every company. Some more, some less. The one I worked for factored in at least one full replacement. Bashing one company for the practice while willfully omitting others is disingenuous at best.
