Anyone compared these two side by side? I'm looking for binos under $500 and I think I've narrowed it down to these two. Advice?

I owned both, and I think the Endeavor ED II is hands down the better bino.

Very little CA, flat and fairly wide FOV, great optically and while saying anything is 'edge to edge' is a stretch, especially in this price range, but it really does get 90% of the way there.

I thought the Vortex had decent clarity, but only in its its sweet spot, which was fairly small, and the FOV is something like 315' vs 345' @ 1000 yrds.

I highly recommend the Endeavor ED II. I kept mine and have no complaints, especially for the price.

I bought my mom a pair of the original ED and they are decent for the money. I think they were about $250 two years ago on sale. She uses them regularly and an eyecup was loose or missing ( I don't remember). I told her to send them in for cleaning and repair, they sent her a new pair due to the issue.

I've owned 10x50 viper HDs and i thought the viper had a better build quality than the ED. It's been years since I looked through them and any comparison wouldn't be valid. I do remember a poor FOV.

I read the ED2 was a big upgrade and the ED4 should be building on an even better platform.

Try to get your hands on both.

How do you know which version is being sold when you look at a listing?

I have the Vanguards and they are pretty good for the money IMO. Mine have been beat to hell and back and are still holding up well. The left eye piece pulls off after a whoops moment, but it pushes back on just as easy. I would recommend them for the money in a heart beat.

The glass is good, but I am looking to upgrade.

That sounds like what happened to my moms binos. Vanguard will more than likely take care of that for you. Call them and then send them in.

Cabelas had Vanguard spirit ED binos in 10x50 for 160.00 the other day, I have no idea how they compare to the Vipers or the Endeavor binos. I do have an Endearvor spotting scope that I'm happy with, and when I had a really minor issue with a missing screw Vanguard customer service took care of me way quicker than Vortex customer service ever has.

I need to call them and see. I think I have $190 in them and for that kind of money, they can't be beat.

Vanguard also put out an Endeavor ED IV bino a while back, they have shown as sold out on their site for a while. I haven't seen much discussion about them except for a very little bit on the bird forums.
