I'd add the S&B Zenith (1.5-6x42) to the list as well, although rather pricy.

The NF SHV 3.5-10 with the Forceplex for under a grand ticks that box too for guys that want a simple plex reticle. A little heavier than most desire though.

You pays your $$ and take your chances gentlemen. Best to "hedge your bet" as best you can.
I have that exact SHV and it’s great. Just wish they made slightly higher power SFP options that weren’t so big, with the 56mm objective.

3-15 or 3-18, 44 or 50 mil. SFP. Nightforce durability without NF weight. And a clean vertical reticle with discrete wind holds on the horizontal. Why is that so hard to come by?

This scope is very reminiscent of my vortex intrepid 4.5-22x50 and clearidge 4.5-22x50. I would bet the tube and internals Movements are identical.

At this point we need an "Ask @Formidilosus" sticky thread. @Ryan Avery you 2 should talk and make it happen ;)

With Forms blessing of coarse.

I am going to make these "evaluations " their own sub forum in optics. Our goal is to test as many scopes as we can. We have an NX8, Zeiss LRP and hopefully a MK5 to test soon. Big thanks to form, these tests are a PIA.

This is going to be great! Thanks to all involved. I can well imagine the time and effort this all takes.

Other than the higher magnification, aren't you pretty much describing a NF Compact?? The 2.5-10x42 with the MOAR reticle is easy to see in any light even in dark timber but you also have the illumination if needed. Its 20.5ozs, and I believe these typically pass the Form test. The reticle isn't overly busy and can be mostly user friendly as a true hunting scope. After doing the scope swap over the last 6-8 months its the closest I've found to what you describe IMHO.

Almost, just not a fan of the MOAR reticle.

Awesome! Hopefully his tests wake people up, and manufacturers step up their game. There is no reason that this many scopes fail to do, what they are designed to do!

This is not an entry level scope. It’s their high end and a $1000+ scope. In no way should this particular line be compared to the Tasco of yesteryear.
The way the companies both function(ed) is identical. Neither built scopes, and most scopes with their name on them are junk.

Will you take donations for the purpose of a test?

I think this vortex performed exactly as it was designed. They market the crap out of their scopes and the warranty. It has a lot of cool features and the weight is attractive. I am positive they didn’t design it with durability related to packing it on hunts as a must have.

I also want to add that we aren't picking on any scope or manufacture. We would love for them all to pass the test.

Forms Method of evaluation is very straightforward with no bias.. I looking forward to getting a pile of scopes tested and catalogued for all to see. This should of happened years ago!!

Dang!!!! I’d like to see your ZeissV4 test and what numbers and percentages you got? I have 3 of them and never had a tracking issue with them

Curious to know what you don't like about it?? It seems pretty simple overall, not that much different over a standard duplex other than the lines. I agree its not the perfect solution but as a true hunting scope/reticle it works - but then this coming from a guy who like the old Leupold Long Range duplex with the dots so take that for what its worth:)
