Are those the Obsidian color?
Yes. I wanted an everyday summer pair and these seemed to be the only other stitched on sole. I liked that they were leather and wool versus synthetic. I have a habit of opening my truck door and then "catching it" with the top of my left foot in tight parking lots. We will see if I can break the habit, and if not, how well the wool above the toe wears. They felt a little suspect with heel lift, but that went away after a few hours of wearing them.

What do you guys like about the magna forest in comparison to the tracker forest?

I had the uncomfort of the lace hook on the tracker smooshing my ankle bone. I loved everything else about them for what Roksliders do. It looks like the high Deacon has the lace pattern the same, but that lace hook is a cord loop and not a metal hook.

I had, and maybe maybe still do, have concerns about water absorption or intrusion into the magna tongue. I think my gaiters will cover that area fine, but it is also much thicker and tightly woven than I thought. I do LOVE LOVE LOVE the ankle cut on the Magna. My complaint with tall boots is the lack of ankle mobility, and these solve that. The heel cup area I think is drastically different than I remember the Trackers and is so with these low Deacons. No slip for me when untied and they feel like a little suction cup back there.

I might order the high Deacon. I think the wool on it starts higher than the magna, and it might be a good blend of magna/tracker.

I’ve been lacing the Tracker ESC’s a lot looser and they feel great. I ordered the Primus trail knit as a summer shoe but they have a hard plastic heel cup that is super uncomfortable. I need to send these back and maybe try those Decons.

Ok so for those of you that have used multiple types of vivos which would you say do the best with moisture management? (Sweat, water coming in, dry time, etc) I'm ready to get a pair but struggling with paralysis by analysis. For reference I hunt in Wyoming, all seasons, everywhere.

Tracker ESC for your conditions. For mine in the desert and early CO elk Magna ESC.

Anybody fighting the eyelet on the ankle pulling out like is mentioned all over on the Amazon reviews? Returning my pair of the Tracker FG’s because I need one size bigger according to Vivo’s sizing (side note, pay attention to their recommendations…), and so I’ve got another pair of the Tracker FG and also the ESC’s en route and will return one of them. I love the look of the sole on the ESC, just wish it had the same eyelet setup as the FG.

Anybody on here pulled the eyelet loose on the ESC’s? I’m waffling back and forth

No, but I don’t tie mine tight at all. They’re way more comfortable when they’re kept looser and being so flexible I don’t think there is any reason to lace them tight. A stiff boot needs to be snug or your foot will move inside the boot and cause blisters. That’s my theory at least.

I am now between 350-370 days of use in the mountains with the original pair of Tracker ESC’s. The haven’t been waxed since January. The leather is still highly water resistant, the soles have maybe 10% wear on them. About 50% of the time has been in standard western mountain conditions, with about half of that in snow. About 25% has been in broken rocky terrain including scree fields, and around 25% desert/high desert conditions.

They are by far the best pair of boots/shoes I have worn.

As I stated before- the vast majority of people I hunt with are wearing these now. Everyone is extremely pleased with how they have preformed that I know of. The couple that aren’t using the Vivo’s are still using Inov-8 Roclites.

I got sick of the toes always looking "scuffed" and worried about wearing the leather out too fast on the toes.
So I decided to use the brown KG bootguard a couple months ago and put a layer around the toe and bottom edge, similar to a rand on other boots.
It's just as flexible and works awesome. It's like a bedliner material layer on them now. Been much better since I've done that.
I was treating fairly regularly this spring with obenaufs, but haven't treated them since I put the kgs boot guard on.

I'm glad to hear the soles are holding up for some of you guys that have had them for awhile. I've only put about 20 miles on mine. I've been pretty impressed with the grip on the soles but it feels softer than most boots so I worried about durability.

I also own some Inov-8 boots that I like quite a bit but the traction is better on the Vivobarefoot's. The Inov-8's are lighter but aren't nearly as robust/durable. Both the uppers and, it sounds like the soles, will last longer on the Vivos.

As a small reference point, had to stand up to my ankles in a muddy stream for about 5 minutes last weekend during a 3D shoot (target was in the water, and I was designated score-caller and arrow retriever ... it also took the rest of the team some time to make their way to the target).

I was concerned how my Forest Tracker ESCs would hold up - they've seen plenty of mud, and brief stints in water, but not full submersion like that ... to my surprise, they completely held the water out. Granted, I'd just re-waxed them before the shoot, but it was great to see the design overall be that waterproof.

About two years in on mine and they have held up great. Probably only 30 days in the woods, but double that serving as motorcycle and work boots.

I’ve been wearing the Forest Tracker ESC for a couple weeks now and they have been great with one big exception. Who decided it was a good idea to sew the sole to the boot right through the middle of the heel cup??? Is anyone else getting blisters here?

I was just about ready to pull the trigger on these till I saw that. I’m pretty sure that would cause skin friction problems for my ankles. If you don’t mind… what is the measurement of the highest stitches from the insole?

I experimented with a few different socks and lacing, seem to have it dialed in now. I can wear them all day without issue, a lightweight wool sock (not ultrathin) and loose lacing was key..
