Weird the people I know that work at cci seem to be working just as many hours as ever, running more machines than ever and have more coworkers than ever…

Here’s some pretty solid proof of vista limiting supply to keep prices high. This ammo has been out of stock on the federal website for over a year. The price has increased twice in that time. I received notification via email a couple weeks ago that it was available and ordered 3 boxes. In the package was 1 new meat eater branded box and two old stock boxes. Sure looks like they’ve been sitting on these rounds while showing out of stock and increasing the price.

Have you looked up the lot numbers to confirm that? Otherwise, it looks like they used up the old boxes before moving on to the shiny new ones.

The lot number lookup would be interesting to see.

I was helping a friend yesterday in receiving a large ammo order.

Seeing the wholesale cost on this stuff now is just obsurd, but when all the gun shops started jacking up the prices, the vendors were left wondering why they were going to let it all go on the same margins just so everyone else could make money.

Ultimately there's plenty of demand right now, so why sell it cheap?

I don’t know how to decode them. Not even the same format though…

This has bewildered me a bit. Any chance there are government contracts that are bogging down the supply chain...?

Nope- separate process and system. Sometimes gov overrun sells to civilians but it doesn't take away from civ stock

I went on a text spree this morning with someone that supplies something to Vista for ammo. He says that Vista is the Equivalent of Walmart for the ammo world. They keep getting beat up on prices expecting their suppliers to cut costs and give them a deal, which has happened, and then raise their prices up to what they would have been without the price cut. Also their demands are worse since they bought Remington.

This company can’t tell them to pound sand because they need a component from Vista that nobody else is supplying so they can’t play hardball or they won’t be able to fill their contracts.

So you're saying they need primers too?

Primer wise there’s 4 US companies and Vista owns 3 with Olin as the 4th. Evidently Sig and Hornady have their own ability to make primers. The Euro companies are keeping with aEuropean demand with no reason to import here.

It‘s a shit show for sure. They may be working nonstop but I never see ammo on the shelf locally and online is OOS for most everything. Someone is buying it and I don’t know anybody that is.

Ammo is the Covid fear for the 2 box a year club. Learn something from this and don’t let it happen again. I tell this to family members but they don’t listen to me. Neck beards love this climate and they’re going to force it for as long as they can while the CEOs increase earnings 30% and get that stock that has quadrupled in the last 2 years.

Maybe they order their boxes a couple hundred thousand at a time and filled the old ones before opening up the Meateater branded boxes? I believe there are strict quantity limits concerning warehousing ammo and some components. No limit to how many boxes you can have in your warehouse.

Would also make sense but, the the last time I ordered it was all meat eater boxes. Two years ago.

All I can say is you should’ve stocked up when the getting was good and invested in reloading and components. Be your own source(kinda). Depends on how much time you have and trust your abilities to create from almost scratch.

I've been watching ammo prices for bulk buys in 9MM and from my observation prices continue to come down and supply continues to improve. What is interesting though is most of the availability is from manufacturers outside the US. $0.18/round is likely a thing of the past, but I am seeing steel case for $14.75/box ($0.30/round) and brass case for $16.99 ($0.34/round). Not so many months ago the best pricing for brass case at this same retailer was $23.99/box ($0.48/round, PMC). Better quality (Fiocchi) can now be had for $20.99/box ($0.42/round). There are more options available too.
