I went out for a morning hunt Friday to a small piece of public here in Northern, Virginia. There was a couple of trucks in my normal spot so I had to improvise and pick a random spot. I wasn't even set up with my bow in the hanger, probably had been in the saddle less than two minutes, when this little dude came charging in full speed and chasing two does. They were literally following my trail into the setup. I didn't have time to range him or anything, he just charged in, I grunted to stop him, came to full draw and let one go. I went back and ranged it to where he was standing when I shot, it was about 8 yards.
He's probably my smallest buck ever but I finally broke the ice on a deer this year and I did it on a tough piece of over hunted public land. He's got a wonky one sided spike thing going on with the left side and 3 points on the other.
