I had mine done while I was on my lunch break about 10 years ago. A couple hours before lunch one day I hit one of our urologists up and he told me to just come downstairs and he’d have it done in about 20 minutes or so. All it cost me was a day float trip down the Kenai. I went back to work, finished out my 12 hour shift and continued to work there after without missing a beat. I was a little tender for a few days, but I didn’t take anything or ice anything down, so really no issues to speak of. Ended up taking it out for a test drive about four or five days later, no problem.

The only caveat to this is that my wife has had seven children since then, but I don’t think any of them are mine.

Alright - horror story time. But first, the basics, just like everyone else, definitely get a specialist no-scalpel guy that does a few thousand a year. I went to a place called weekend vasectomy and they did like 30 minute session all day long on Saturday, in-out done. Less painful than a cavity, and talked to the doc about his OIL moose hunt the whole time. The surgery was flawless and the end results were great.

Now for the crappy part. One of the more common side effects is a sperm granuloma, and it's usually pretty benign. When they cap and cauterize both ends of the vans def because sometimes one of them leaks and your body will wall it off with scar tissue and fluid and it'll go a way in a few weeks - usually no big deal. Day of the surgery, a little discomfort but no big deal, next couple days it went away to nothing. About 4 days later I woke up in excruciating pain. Near as we can work out I had a granuloma, but it adhered to the psoas muscle which is a major core stabilizer, so any movement had a direct path to yank on the testicles, which was horrendous.

Once we figured it out, a heavy dose of ibuprofen and movement to break up the adhesion (pretty awful pain) cleared it up, but for a couple days I was laid up. Still totally worth it, but just like everyone else has said- plan on some recovery time and don't go being stupid.

It’s quick and easy, office procedure. Keep a couple bags of frozen mixed vegetables or peas in the freezer for after the procedure for the first day. You will be good to go shortly thereafter. I was in the same boat as you, no accidents at my age.

I shaved my balls, got to the chair, they got the needle out and I noped the **** out and did the walk of shame to the waiting room.

About 1 in 10 of my buddies who got it said busting a nut hurt for a long time after. Seeing as how I've drawn 4 random elk tags in 3 states, I'm not liking my luck lol.

Got the wife spayed instead.

What was surprising was that once I figured out it was an adhesion it was no big deal. It was just like after a really big squat day when you can't walk up stairs - just with your nuts.

Biggest piece of advice I’ll give you is that after the initial healing is done, it’s vitally important your wife/girlfriend understands that a “daily release” is necessary for the next four to six weeks. It’s essential to insure things continue to function as designed and swimmers are out of the system. She also needs to understand, it may be an additional two to four weeks of daily therapy to insure the coast is clear. Doctor’s orders. Just sayin‘...

I was a race horse trainer and got the snip at 10am, home to Panadol, frozen peas and went to the races at 6pm....back to normal the.next day.
I think we had to use condoms for a few weeks.....

No real issues with the vasectomy. Get very mild random pain once in awhile. People here have explained it pretty well.

One piece of advice:
milk it for all its worth. Exaggerate the pain. Have the wife and kiddos bring you your preferred beverages and meals. You don’t get a lot opportunities like this so don’t waste it

I had it done about 5 years ago. Girlfriend has 3 kids, I have 2 so if one slipped past the goalie we were gonna be van shopping. You know that feeling about 20 minutes after getting kicked in the nuts? Kind of a dull discomfort in the region… that’s about what it felt like for a couple days. Had it done on a Friday morning and spent the weekend working on a project on one of my cars and was back at work Monday. Not bad at all especially compared to starting over when all the kids were 10 or older at the time.

Edit: MAKE SURE YOU GO BACK AND GET TESTED AS ADVISED!! I had a buddy get one and about a year and a half later he knocked up his wife. Or somebody did. HAHAHA. Nah, it was him. He didn’t go get tested to make sure he wasn’t launching live rounds.

I’ll go first. My wife (35) just had her IUD removed. I need to get snipped so I can commence to shoot up the club as my pull out game is weak and with no goalie in place, I don’t need to have another kid at my age. I am 40 (almost 41) and too old for that.

I was told that they don’t put you under for the procedure. Is this true? How bad is it? What’s the recovery like? I was also told that the first “eruption” may be bloody. Don’t know if my buddy is messing with me, so thought I should ask the masses.

A friend of mine (who is an ED nurse) helped the Doctor perform the vasectomy on him because the person who was suppose to be helping got sick in the middle of it. He said it was not bad at all.

While I don't have any personal experience in that area, my old buddy Darren does. He said the vasectomy was fine, no issues. Local anesthetic, talking to the doc the whole time. He asked the doc to explain to him what he was doing. And the doctor says well, I'm just snipping these tubes. I'll cut off a little and show you. Doc holds up about a one inch piece of vas deferens. Darren goes home shortly after. A little sore for a few days but he said it was pretty minor.

Fast forward 6 years and Darren has divorced and remarried and the new wife wants kids- so back to the doc he goes. New doctor this time for the reversal. Things are pretty much the same. Local anesthetic, talking to the doc and then the doc goes quiet. Darren asks if something is wrong. The doc says well, I've never seen this happen before but one of your vas deferens is about an inch too short to reattach. Darren asks what the doc was going to do. Doc says brace yourself, it will stretch... Darren said that was his worst doctor visit to date, but he did have another daughter about 14 months later.

As someone medical, this had me laughing so hard I could not type.

There’s a urologist in Austin named Richard Chopp, I have several friends for whom he has performed vasectomies. Sounded a little suspicious to me but none of them have had any kids since and I assume they still have their manhood. Austin is a weird place. I was considering getting it done 7 or 8 years ago but I lucked out and my wife had a procedure done called Essure- which has since been banned/discontinued due to frequent complications. Fortunately my wife had no complications and only had very mild discomfort for about a day. Our youngest is 12 so I guess it worked.
