This should be pretty good news for hunters across the West. Utah's bid to take control of most BLM lands in the state was shot down by the high court.

The filing is probably best summarized by the opening line of the article: "It took the U.S. Supreme Court 12 words and one period to dismiss more than 300 pages of legal arguments in which Utah, Wyoming and other Western states sought to establish control and ownership of millions of acres of federally managed public land."

Hopefully we can properly bury this issue for good. Reach out to the reps that supported this and let them know not to touch this again.

I dont think this is over. I think part of the reason they declined the case was they wanted it to go through the lower courts first. So now they will file in district court? I may be wrong.

It never started. The true intent, IMO, was to get state transfer into National News and on the radar of a Republican controlled President, House and Senate. This was never meant to do anything other than be a flare going up in the night for the rest of the troglodytes to see.

I disagree when it comes to UT. This has been going on for a while in UT and they won't stop trying.

As an Alaskan I’m extremely torn on this topic. State management likely leads to eventual sales and once it’s gone it’s gone. On the flip side, federal dictatorship about land use is reaching sky high levels.

If you had massive federal closures superseding your state fish and games management model like we do, you may not be as cheerful to keep the Feds in control. An overhaul of the department of interior would be epic but likely never to happen.

Not to mention millions of acres have been and will be given to the native corporations from the blm.

I think you are right! Only a matter of time until a similar suit or new angle is attempted. From Wyoming the State Land board (mostly made up of large landowners) has a long history of transferring land to friends and trading lands with large ranches to block access to public lands.

State land parcels in our county are consistently over-grazed. In addition is Wyoming you CANNOT camp overnight on most state lands. State land management is a joke in our state.

Based on all the podcasts with lawyers discussing this, there was an expectation that this move would only be a hiccup and they'd still submit in lower courts.

This definitely appears to be the case. An impressive display of grandstanding. Tell those troglodytes to keep their hands off!!
