The fire in the Beaver unit is really going. Someone sent me this video. Can't confirm the location or date though. Does that seem like a lot of antler for this time of year?

That is a lot of bone but the Beaver is one of the best elk units in the country. No surprise that old bulls are big this time of year.

Someone else on here was talking about the tremendous early growth this year in CO, presumably from the incredibly warm winter.

I saw several in Wyoming a few weeks ago with good growth, nothing like that front bull though.

Incredibly warm and incredibly dry winter. We're breathing the smoke from the Beaver fire in Western Colorado.

Dang that guy's big. I agree, I think in normal years that would be weird to see that much antler end of June, but considering how warm and dry winter was and with a decent spring, he probably ate well all winter and spring.

Its not done either. It was putting up a huge column this afternoon.

Pretty normal, bulls are usually about 70% complete right now.

Its not done either. It was putting up a huge column this afternoon.

71000 acres and 0 percent containment last I checked. If it’s been as windy down there as it has been up this way, there’s nothing stopping that fire for a bit.

We had bad winds today. Yesterday I didn't even see a smoke column, just some scattered smoke. Today it was massive.

I took the day off work, went at shot a few rounds first thing in the morning and it was a little windy. By about 10 in the morning it was pretty consistent 15MPH and gusting. Been like that all day but is starting to calm down, still getting gusts but not as frequent.

That weather, couple with the heat, is no good when it comes to stopping a fire.

My sister in law lives down by the Iron fire. That’s a bad one too.

Its got a long way to go to Monroe but these winds can throw an ember so its not impossible. I heard they were telling Marysvale to get ahead and have a plan for evac. The Piute reservoir should hold a good section if it makes it that far.

Today in Cedar was some of the strongest winds I have ever experienced. Luckily no smoke our way like a few days ago which clogged the entire area. (might have been from the Grapevine, Kane Springs or Sawmill fires to the west of us. Hoping they get some containment on the Beaver/Cottonwood fire soon, it's a bad one. I have the Beaver west Deer tag so I hope those bucks see some clear skies and wander west... just sayin..

Had the pleasure of having a bull tag on that mountain a couple years ago. It’s an awesome place and beautiful mountain, tough to see so much of it burning up with no real end in sight. The basin I killed my bull in looks like it burnt up over night according to OnX. It’s going to be a long summer

It is genuine. On Big Flat south of Ranger cabin. They've been in here a month. They headed East to City Creek but so did the fire. Lots of dead deer, cattle and elk on this one. I pulled cameras 2 days before this lit up, and wish I hadn't. Every area I hunted the past few years burned. I'm holding 2 Deer tags and might return them. The entire mountain got hit, but not all of it burned. The Ski Resort (Eagle Point) did not "entirely" burn down, mostly just the lower lodge and lower condo's. The entire up half did well. I have acreage on top and somehow the fire skirted me and a few of my neighbors. Between last years 90+ bull harvest, the previous 10 years of excess cow tags sole, a dry winter and this, it will be bleak for a while. No summer feed this year, not sure how they will survive thru the rut and winter. Both pics from my house
