Have already let the sheriffs office know and will be calling atf Monday. This sounds like something that should be reported to ATF? Them getting involved might make UPS care

Was it entered stolen? An empty box showing up isn’t lost.Have already let the sheriffs office know and will be calling atf Monday.
Yep.Was it entered stolen? An empty box showing up isn’t lost.
I told the sheriffs office the package looked like it was opened, I will make sure when I call atf to use the words stolen.Yep.
@Hunter609 , did you tell them you want it on NCIC/listed as stolen?
If it’s agains their policy, that doesn’t mean they can just make it disappear, not let you know, and act like it’s your fault. Someone removed it from the box and has not contacted you, sounds like it’s reasonable to believe it is stolen.
What does your invoice show for your "sporting goods item"?I've never shipped a gun part, I ship sporting goods. If they lose the item, I can provide an invoice for said item, showing the cost. If they happen to "find it", they aren't going to open the box and see what it is. If the item falls out of the box while in transit, they'll deny because it wasn't packaged sufficiently. I believe that'll be the end result here.

I think their restriction on shipping is ridiculous, but it's their rules. I'm not going to try to skirt around it by sending "machined parts" or "sporting goods" and be out an action, barrel, etc if gets lost in transit.

Thick packing tape was usedPacking tape is difficult to tear and relatively cheap. Never a bad idea to put it on thick!
Did you get a chance to see (even a picture) of the box that arrived at the destination? I'm just curious if it looked like it was deliberately opened or if they tried to make it look like the contents escaped? Not that it matters....shitty deal to have to take on either way.Thick packing tape was used
