They are covered according to their terms and condition it excludes firearms or firearm kits. They have a list of items that are not insured. Curious who you recommend using? PayPal shipping has saved me way more money over the years than I’ll ever lose out on an insured item. I was just providing an example in my post of typical shipping costs, that wasn’t an actual shipment I made.

Little known fact - parcelguard will void your claim automatically if you didn't pay extra for signature confirmation on any item insured/valued at over $500.

Im not debating using paypal for the shipping label discount. I use it as well. Just letting you know that the insurance option they offer isn't great. You'll likely have better luck with the carrier insurance.

I've yet to see anything posted about parcelguard claims, which makes me hesitant to want to try to use it in the first place.

UPS will most likely deny any insurance claim no matter what unless they lose the item. It generally takes an attorney to get them to pay up.

USPS for the win. DO NOT over insure it. USPS will only pay for the value of the item IF you can prove what it is worth.

The local UPS warehouse, where the trucks loaded and unloaded, will ship items. All one has to do is package said items.

The screenshot you posted had a downloadable shipping label. Im confused why you paid for shipping at all?
Shipping label attached. Leupold instructions were "If possible, ship by a traceable parcel service. Please insure the shipment against loss."

$124.07 Ouch! Sorry for your pain on that ridiculous amount.
I would of likely done USPS Priority mail, with added insurance, and signature delivery.

Yesterday I used a UPS Store to ship a Mark 4HD back to Leopold for warranty. Had bought their $19 box and packing from the same store the day before. When I took the package back to the UPS Store and requested insurance in the amount of $1500.00, the clerk made it clear if they didn’t package the product, an insurance claim would likely be denied, since my boxing it up with their box and packing probably wouldn’t pass their test. I appreciated her honesty.

So, I paid the stupid tax and will have a better strategy next time. $124.07 (including $37.50 insurance) to ship a 2 or so pound item seems excessive. Any shipping recommendations for the future will be appreciated. TIA.

UPS store will deny the insurance claim regardless because you’re shipping a product they don’t allow through the store.

As others have said, pirateship.com is the best resource for shipping! And never purchase shipping and packaging from a UPS Store...

Your mistake was going to the UPS Store. They are not UPS they just have a licensing agreement with them. Basically they put their own markup on whatever UPS charges them to ship an item.

From now on just go to UPS.com and set up your own shipment and print out your own shipping label. Then drop it off at the local UPS Hub, UPS Store or any other place that accepts UPS packages. Be sure to get a receipt showing that they received the package.

Setting up your own shipment direct with UPS online will save you at least half of what the UPS Store will charge you.

What did everyone expect was going to happen when the UPS workers unions were striking for “liveable wages” when they’re already making $75k a year to drive a delivery truck. Liveable wages, meaning being overpaid for your skill set, only causes inflation such as this.
