Yesterday I used a UPS Store to ship a Mark 4HD back to Leopold for warranty. Had bought their $19 box and packing from the same store the day before. When I took the package back to the UPS Store and requested insurance in the amount of $1500.00, the clerk made it clear if they didn’t package the product, an insurance claim would likely be denied, since my boxing it up with their box and packing probably wouldn’t pass their test. I appreciated her honesty.

So, I paid the stupid tax and will have a better strategy next time. $124.07 (including $37.50 insurance) to ship a 2 or so pound item seems excessive. Any shipping recommendations for the future will be appreciated. TIA.
How else are they supposed to afford to pay their delivery drivers $100k a year? I didn’t read every post but will add another vote for pirateship.

In all truthfulness even if they do pack it good luck getting your money from them. All these warranty deals from delivery companies are just a scam

The whole business plan of those places is to take huge advantage of people who don't want to take the time to package and ship themselves. I took a pair of Nikes in that needed returned, forgot to print my own label so I stopped in and they wanted $40, I laughed, drove home and printed my own label for $12 and shipped with the exact same service.
A scope should have cost about $25 insured, if you have a Paypal account you can ship using Paypal ship station also or just create a USPS account yourself. Most any store will give you free cardboard boxes.

You should read the terms on paypal's parcelguard insurance.

the exclusions they have on 2a related items, you likely wouldnt be covered regardless of what you paid.

Not trying to derail the thread and make this pirate ship centric. I had an issue one time with pirate ship where I repackaged a USPS flat rate box, entered the weight and dimensions, and then shipped via USPS. A day or two later, the box comes back to me because I didn’t the buy the correct postage because flat rate boxes are “priority mail”. So if you’re like me, and recycle boxes, keep this in mind when using pirate ship.

Thats user error. flat rate boxes aren't regular priority mail. They're priority mail - flat rate, which carries a fixed rate based on box size, predetermined, regardless of the weight inside.

Priority mail NON flat rate, are priced based on box dimensions and weight.

They are covered according to their terms and condition it excludes firearms or firearm kits. They have a list of items that are not insured. Curious who you recommend using? PayPal shipping has saved me way more money over the years than I’ll ever lose out on an insured item. I was just providing an example in my post of typical shipping costs, that wasn’t an actual shipment I made.

My pleasure. I had waited in line and the line was long behind me so I just paid the stupid tax and told the nice UPS Store lady - if this is the worst thing that happens to me for a while, I’m going to be in good shape. She just smiled.

Insult to injury: shipped on 2/11/25 with a scheduled delivery of 2/17/25 – for $124.07.

If Leupold can give me assurance the POI shift issue is correctable, i.e. it’s not just a cheap scope that’s been repaired and odds are its going to happen again - I will be happy. I’ve got Kahles scopes that have been banged around in PRS matches and never had this issue. Same with the Nightforce’s and Leupold VX3’s I have on hunting guns. Otherwise, the shipping cost will be least of my $$$’s lost since the scope will have to be replaced and it will end up on a short range only kids food plot gun. :)

You have to watch some of those UPS stores, they are flat ripoffs. There is a huge difference between two stores near me, less than two miles apart, but the people are absolutely different.

They will assure you nothing is wrong with it and send it back. At least, that’s what they did with my vx5HD.

Leupold and zero shifts are like peas and carrots

I sent a VXII 1 x 4 back to them 4 times for fogging. The last time I sent it I told them to keep it and send me a new scope. They sent me a new VX3i 1.5 x 5.

I have a Leupold VX6 that needs to go back as well and this is the exact reason I haven't sent it back is just the cost to send it pisses me off.
Im gonna give the Pirate Ship a try and see what it is. If I can get this one replaced im gonna sell it and go with Nightforce or Maven

Even if you didn't use Pirate Ship and used a similar printed label for non-priority and attached it to a priority box.......it still would have come back to you.

I shipped a scope from Idaho to Oklahoma last week with $1,000 insurance. Used an amazon box I had and printed the label from Pirate ship.... $30.55 through Pirate Ship.
