Upgrade inexpensive bow or buy new?

I have a 2014 PSE Vision package bow I got for a deal a few years ago. Wasn't sure if I really wanted to shoot archery, and this was a good way to test the waters for not a lot of money.

I'd like to start bow hunting mule deer and elk next year here in Utah.

Do you guys think upgrading the sight, rest, etc... is worth it on an inexpensive bow like this, or should I just buy a nicer bow?

not familiar with that bow, but youd be amazed at all the year or two old flagship bows on archerytalk.com that can be had for cheap. I just picked up a Elite E35 for 375 for a friend and cant believe how good of shape its in.

You will probably gain more with new sight and rest ect then you will with a new bow. You also can transfer them over to a new bow down the road.

I buy a couple of new bows yearly. In all honesty you really need a few years between models to justify a new bow. There isn’t much difference between bows made in the last 5 years. This years line up for me is a 2015/2016 and 2018 bow. Everything else got moved.

So, the PSE Vision has an IBO rating of 306 fps. That's certainly fine, but considered slow by today's standards. Basically that's because the vision was a "Ready to Shoot" package to help people get into the sport, and have a lot of adjustability with draw length going from 12" to 30".

If you're committing to getting into archery more, I personally would try to find someone selling a 1-3 year old bow that fits you and buy that. You can even find people clearing them out fully loaded with sight and rest for a good deal sometimes.

If I wasn't LH with a 32 1/2" draw, every one of my bows would be bought used for cheap. The best deal I've been able to find was the brand new LH 2006 Bowtech Old Glory that had sat on the dealer's shelf for over a year. I got it for $350 shipped and I love that bow. Thinking about using it this year for hunting season again instead of my 2014 PSE Freak.

So ya, there are a lot of great bows out there in the Classifieds.......even older ones if you know what you want. Last year I saw a 2006 Old Glory for $100 on Ebay. If it had been LH I would have bought it and made it a special project.

upgrading the sight, rest, etc. is worth it IMO because you can just transfer that stuff over to your next bow. i'll second the buying used on AT. you can get a really nice top of the line bow that's a few years old for well under $500.

I think I'll probably end up just upgrading the sight, rest, etc. I will try to shoot it as much as possible this year, and put in for archery tags next year. Just need to take it down to a local shop to help me get it all set up.
