Upcoming Sheep Hunt

trouble focusing at work, trouble focusing at home, packing, repacking, stairmaster.......boxes of stuff from Amazon that I probably don't need..........28 more days

Yep...this is referred to as sheepitis.

We're doing a late one this year.

Good luck and have an awesome hunt.
We look forward to your report.

Safe travels.

You guys are killing me. I'm committing my limited time and money to a fly out goat trip this year, which I fully expect to be awesome, but between that and the non-stop traveling I've been doing for work my sheep hunt is going to be either highly limited or non-existent.

On the positive side, I've gotten to spend some non-hunting time in sheep country this year, and saw a few rams last week both from the ground and the air. Later this month I'm touring most of northern Yukon via helicopter, including all the mountain ranges, so I'll at least SEE some sheep. It will be fun.... but not NEARLY as fun as actually chasing them. Crossing my fingers that something will work out.

Ok YK, you can live thru me this sheep season. Going forward, as this will probably be my one and only, I will live thru you FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!! Good luck with the goat trip Brother.

Agreed!!!

Are you guys saying I should stop whining now? :). Ok ok.

I may still cry on the 10th, but I promise to try and be a good sport about all the ram pictures I'm going to see.

It actually looks like I might be able to squeeze a trip out later in the month. I just need a hot tip on a good later season walk in spot that isn't all shot out! Anybody? Haha.

Ya YK.... quit whining :D You get to spend a lot more time in the Alaskan Bush and Sheep Mtns than the most of us!

This year will be kind of a neat hunt for me. It will be sheep hunt number 10. I'll be going with a guy that took me on the first sheep hunt I ever went on. That year he drew DCUA walk in after 25 years of trying and he needed someone to go with him. I jumped at the chance. He broke me in right.... 6 mile mtn bike ride followed by a 15+ mile trek and then we headed up to sheep country. He got his ram and I got bit by the sheep hunting bug. Life has never been the same! :D Well, because of life, children home from college, other hunting partners, timing etc. He and I have never been back in the sheep mtns together. We've talked about it for years. I told him I figure he owes me.... I packed out his ram now out it's his turn to pack out mine :D

I remember a couple things he said on that first trip...

"That's how you do it"

I've never been afraid to put in the miles on foot.

and when we were leaving I commented on how it was sad to leave, to which he replied...

"Well, you can't stay here forever.... you just gotta keep coming back"

I have for ten years.

like the rest of you planning on hunting Dall's this year, I am looking forward to my annual trek into the mountains. This year will be the first time into the Wrangells, and also the earliest going. Flying on the 8th with 40 Mile. Coming on 62 yrs. I have been trying to maintain sheep shape by walking 6 miles a day. The last half mile bare foot to toughen up the feet a bit. Have done a couple of 12-15 mile hikes into the Chugach and have another planned for Mon., doing the 'Ramp', a 12 1/2 mile round trip with 3000 ft. elv. gain, a high point of 5240. Upgraded some new gear this year, primarily a Stone Glacier Solo pack. Will start my daily 6 mile walks with weight this week. Getting close to time to go and can't wait. Good luck to all venturing out, hope we all have better weather than we did last year!

Weather was not kind to us either in the AK range last year. Saw a ram that probably would've just missed the book then got weathered out hard for 4 days. Sounds like your experience was similar!

Ain't that the truth...big rascals are lucky and smart!

Good luck to all of you this year. I'm going on a OIL Sheep hunt here in OR with a buddy who drew. I will get to hunt goats in AK this year for the first time, so I'm pretty amped too!

Got a question boys: WHO'S NOT READY !!!!!!!! I fly out for AK Thurs evening. Due to extreme excitement, I'll be up 24/7 til then so if anyone is bored or lonely, hit me up. The Rem 700TI hitting at 600 today didn't help with the sleep situation. Anyone have any spare Valium???
