How much would be willing to spend on a barrel that would last say, 1200 rounds (something like 6.5 PRC) that was integrally suppressed? Because that's going to be an EXPENSIVE barrel, that is expendable when its burnt out.

Good question.
I think the market would support something between $1.5k to $2k.

Right now one could easily spend that much on a big name barrel, chambering work, and then the suppressor and regulatory fees.

Obviously this would need to be a quality product that would stand on its own merits when compared to a separate barrel and suppressor. But providing a streamlined product with good balance, suppression, and accuracy would absolutely have a market.

I don’t see this barrel being for the high volume practice rifle. But a 6creed barrel (or 6um or whatever) that gets 2-3 hundred shots per season for the next 5-10 years would 100% be worth it to me.

The high volume practice rifle, the class rifle, the competition rifle; these would all be better served by treating the barrel like a consumable wear item.
But there are rifles that get used only during hunting seasons. These rifles would be perfect for an integrally suppressed barrel.

Also, a 4” reaper with reflex hub in 6mm would be awesome, probably use that instead of an OG6/22

And don't forget once it is burned out you must either keep in in a safe, or cut it in half (long ways) with a cutting torch, or shred it, then maintain proof of appropriate distruction.

I think the true market for something like that is very small, and best left to a boutique gun company like Gunwerks or custom makers.

I agree that it would need to be a longer barrel life item. Something like a 20” total length .223. I like the idea of an integrated suppressor, but I am not sure it is the most practical thing yet.

The cost and headache of NFA tax stamps have perverted our thinking for decades -- let's start over:

Something OPS INC (ish) that paired with milled to (open source) spec collared barrels would offer significant price/performance improvements over anything we can currently purchase.

Stretch that concept to 2-3x the reflex length, and the middle portion of the can (covering 6-12" of barrel) could be a titanium tube -- removable and replaceable. Let the barrel makers make barrels. Figure out the best way to quiet them and sell that.

Way beyond that. There are versions that make a 6.5cm 24” barrel gun recoil down.

Yea need a happy medium for mid size cartridges. I’m curious about the printed in brake, would make cleaning simple if it’s all titanium.

Reflex suppressors generally offer a bit more suppression without extending further past the muzzle. AB has some videos about this, iirc, where they show that a couple of inches of reflex are roughly equivalent to another baffle. So, for instance, a 6” AB Raptor 8 w/ 2” reflex would be equivalent to a 7” suppressor.

You also get a flatter tone or pitch. Nearly everyone who hears a reflex suppressor alongside a muzzle forward suppressor reports that it doesn’t sound as high pitched. For some people, the high pitched sound is like nails on chalkboard. Other people, like me, don’t care.

As the shooter, I generally never notice the pitch or tone at all. But I do notice it as the observer.

I would expect a Reaper with reflex mount to be slightly quieter and have lower pitch than a regular muzzle forward Reaper. While, obviously, also being heavier. But the weight won’t be sticking out as far.

It was tuned/modified to be about right. I shot 4-5 different versions back to back with trigger cam, and the one that was chosen had lass than .5 mil average movement on a 9lb all up 6.5cm with 140’s. On a 6mm it just shimmered.

In my view because normal muzzle forward 6-7” cans are so boring/mediocre/not optimized to use. It’s what most people want that do not have a large experience base with cans, but is also like luke warm, unsweetened, plain oatmeal. The Reaper was “conceived” in my front yard when Ryan and I told Cliff to make a “scythe that doesn’t suck”, because most people think it’s what they want…. While neither of us said we would personally use it.

It is a very good 6” muzzle forward can- I would argue objectively maybe the best hunting 6” can on the market- and if you are only buying one can, probably the best choice for a lot of people. But, not for me. However, with the OTB…. It’s silly good. And that one can use it normally or as a max suppression suppressor, means that I must admit it is really good.

That makes sense... just watched the videos. Ill be calling them to add that to my reaper i have waiting to ship.

Is the og your goto can ? Or something else? Or have you got a prototype thats at the top for now?

For hunting 7mm and less, the OG65. For dedicated hunting up to even 300wm (though it’s at the limit) yes the OG. For precision AR’s the AEM5/OPS INC 12th model. For normal carbines- CGS and B&T; though the new one from US is fantastic so far.

Or have you got a prototype thats at the top for now?

There are several in development by a couple of different companies that are really good. The .224 and 6mm OG lites are phenomenal.
