Unknown suppressors OG testing

My non smartass response...... This isn't just about the OG, it's about suppressors in general. I have likely shot over 50,000 rounds with a suppressor and fewer than 50 rounds without hearing protection. I'm noticing a growing trend where people believe it's acceptable and "hearing safe" to shoot without protection when using suppressors. My hearing is already suffering from my experiences with guns and my time in the military. I have a constant ringing in my ears every day. So, please remember to wear hearing protection and avoid smoking cigarettes.
I also find people think that hearing protection is all the same. It isn’t and even when worn properly which much isn’t, may not provide enough protection. Having worked in the industry (hearing protection) and having conducted impulse testing and nrr testing, imho much of the labeling is suspect.

A good study that is often referenced. https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/hhe/reports/pdfs/2002-0131-2898.pdf

My take away is double protection is a must unless using a can. I often wear electronic in ear while hunting with my can. I am slowly replacing all my rifles that don’t have threaded barrels. No point in having more noise exposure than necessary.

A lot to take in here, I guess my take away is. Don't shoot suppressed without ear pro as long as you can avoid it. I'm hunting this year with an OG, albeit a prototype, with no ear pro. Here is my reason for choosing the OG:

1. 4" after the muzzle & 1.55" Dia.
2. Balance of the rifle shifted back.
3. Not going to blow my ears out like I have done with a brake a few times.....
4. 4" after the muzzle....

The intent of this can was never to be the quietest can on the market, and it isn't. With muffs on you can hear a signifciant difference between say scythe and the OG. I have made some suuuper quiet cans, 126dBA average at the shooters ear. Its the size of a hyperion, and that isnt what we were going for.

For those that prefer a quieter can over a can with a minimized form factor.... We have something cooking up that is going to fit right in...

Call it the OMG

As in, "OMG, will you guys shut up already?" haha

Just caught up myself, and I agree with both sides.

First and foremost to anyone out there reading/lurking: no, do not shoot suppressed without ear pro. People do that while hunting; don’t do it at the range. I was curious, knew the risks and did it in a way that was specific to my situation. Even though I’ve been around thousands of suppressed shots, I had never done so while hunting without earpro. Had I read online that multiple people had done so already and it rang their ears, had I already seen Form weigh in saying that most cans will so that, I wouldn’t have done any such personal testing. Like Ryan said, thousands of suppressed shots and very few without ear pro. And those were all hunting.

….well, with Ryan a few shots were probably in his house to turn off the TV so he didn’t have to get up. (sorry couldn’t help myself)

Secondly, to anyone out there reading/lurking: you’re welcome. A few of us have bravely potentially harmed ourselves so you don’t have to. Question has been answered, no need to test it yourselves. Again, do not shoot suppressed without ear pro. People do that while hunting; don’t do it at the range.

Got shipped out of town for the last few weeks, but when I finally get out to compare the OG to other cans it’ll be while wearing hearing protection. A few of the guys 50yds back might opt to do without, that’s up to them. But the shooter will be wearing it.

We frequently listen to cans 30-50yds back with no hearing protection, need to take a mic back when we do that to see what it meters back there!

@Unknown Suppressors so has something like this been played with yet? On one hand I would be pumped if it came out, on the other i would be bummed i spent my money on the OG instead of waiting to see what might be.

SR-25 RIFLE SUPPRESSOR 7.62 / .300 - Knight's Armament https://share.google/vQVMh7EXGNKjavBUR

Here you go
This is nothing like what i posted. What is in my garbage drawing is basically the OG with the threads at the back of the can removing the need for a inner wall. This would increase volume and decrease weight. The downside is it would require a interesting but simple barrel threading job.

Thats pretty much exactly how that one mounts. The barrel slips inside about 6" and latches. 6" otb 6" fob

MK11 Mod 0.
Sorry I should have been more clear in my post and drawing. I was more referring to the fact that it is extremely heavy and long. I was thinking a lighter version of the OG with more volume.

There are folks who are making 3d printed titanium versions of several of the old military suppressors. I don’t have great information on their suppression capabilities, but some folks like them.

I'm not familiar the suppressors your talking about. Are they one piece, direct thread, OTB 4 inch out front, and under 10 oz?
