I posed this question in the optics threat as well but I though I might present it to the more technical minds in this group.

Like most I've been struggling shelling out 100$ plus for Digi scoping adapters that are cumbersome, don't line up well, require special phone cases ect. So i created my own. However, I have several different bino's, for me, the wife and kids and doing each set as a "one off design" was quite a PIA. I created a parametric model ( type in dimensions and the model automatically generates) It has worked great for the bino's I have but now I wonder... is there any binocular out there that this would not work for?. Please show me your binocular that this would not work for and poke holes in the idea. Much appreciated.

The grey phone attachment piece is adhered to the back of any phone, or phone case with industrial 3m double sided tape, like a mag view.

one benefit to this level of custom precision is that the phone will always rest exactly on the eye comes so there should be no problem with eye relief or sun glare getting between the phone and binos.

due to the magnet placement and locator pin it will also always line the camera and the bino lens up exactly the same with no fiddling.

one obvious down side to me is that you would not be able to adjust the pupillary distance wider or more narrow to accommodate different users once the barrel separation distance was specified.

Tagged because I'd love to have something like this. I can't afford a video camera right now, at least not one worth buying.

Dumb question - why does it have to attach to both eyecups? You'll only be 'looking' through one of them. Does attaching to both make the mount more sturdy?

Stability is the big one. There is not allot of clamping force from the mount around the eye cup and the barrel. I'm afraid if I did just one side the weight of the phone would cause it to rotate. I could put some kind of a screw tensioning symptom on it to clamp down but then it gets more brittle, bulky, and cumbersome.

Looks nice!

Literally just commenting to say good job on making it parametric. So many people have no idea what/how to do it and it's such a powerful tool!
