Unit 53 NM Archery Help

Guys-

New to the site. My hunting buddies and I have tags for Unit 53 in New Mexico for first season elk. As we have hunted Unit 54 in CO for the last three years we understand hunting steep terrain. Normally we backpack in the to remote areas but will be utilizing pack horses this time. We have been looking at old threads and Onxmaps and trying to put together a game plan of getting away from the crowds and getting high. Any help or info on the unit would be greatly appreciated. If anyone is going to Unit 54 in CO let me know and I will PM info on the unit to them. Thanks in advanced.

Horses will definitely get you away from the crowds in that unit. The timing of your hunt coincides with the last weekend of the Jeep rentals/tours out of Red River. I know where I'd be if I were riding in on a horse
