I believe your only option is to sell your tag back to Idaho. And if I remember correctly you lose 20%ish of the cost. The first year they went to this circus format of waiting in a virtual line I purchased an “A” tag that ended up being for a December archery season. It was the last A tag left other than Lolo and other northern areas. So I lost some money on the deal but atleast not all $900

I have bought a tag for Idaho 2025 , but unfortunately I was issued a B Tag when I wanted an A Tag as Iam only an Archery hunter , is it possible to exchange that Tag for an A Tag . Iam in Australia so things arn't that easy for me and IDFG is extremely hard to contact even their email from here isn't recognized . Some advise would be greatly appreciated .
You can also exchange it in one of the later turned back tag sales but you may not get the unit you want. Best bet is to turn it in, get a refund and buy another if you get a low number in the queue.

Use your bow during the gun season, problem solved.

Looking up IDFG site last night you can change the tag as long as its before that tag season starts so I have my fingers crossed I can do it . To me its no differant from buying a piece of clothing and you got the wrong size , Ive paid the money I should be able to change it , it does change the tag quota . Also the rediculious thing is my hunting license is correct and that being a Archery license , so they stuff up .

You can exchange your tag when return tags go on sale. I don’t know the dates off hand. lThe day prior to sale date FG will post the list of available tags. If you see the tag you want, login in as you do on Dec 10th. You’ll be placed in the virtual line. Once your in you select the tag you want, assuming it’s available. Hunters who successfully exchange their tag must return the original tag to Fish and Game before the new tag will be sent to them.

If you try to do the tag return and returned tag purchase, i.e “tag exchange”, all in one swing, I think you will miss out on the returned tag. I doubt they will be able to process your tag return fast enough over the phone. Your best bet if you absolutely cannot hunt the B tag is to return the B tag before April 1 so you can receive the highest refund at 75% and then plan to hit the returned tag sales, which IDFG will post to their website in the coming months. The first one is usually in April.

Yes they do technically allow an exchange.

The part you’re missing is another tag has to be available.

At this time to my knowledge no other tags are available.

They are not going to go over zone quota to exchange your tag because you say you messed up.

Some B tags have open archery seasons. It could also have been assumed that OP may later pick up a tag for another species and bow hunt it. An archery permit and a B tag is not a strange combo for purchase. You can also buy an A tag without an archery permit, as some A tags have seasons open for any weapon. With an A tag you intend to bow hunt, you, of course, would want to pick up the permit before you start hunting.
