Kebler, there are so many people who will never be able to do a 50 miler, congrats!
I am one of those people, with being a big guy with not so good knees, I couldn't handle the training alone, let alone the 50!
That is great, be proud of what you were able to complete!

Copy that thanks, you would be suprised at what you can do, I have had people that if you looked at them, think they have no bussiness being out there finish hours before me, the great thing about ultras is its not about running its about survival, sure faster is better, but you get pas 30 miles or so and you have to have will power and a soul to finish.

Congrats Kebler, 50 miles is no easy feat.

I agree, my race was most definitely a mental battle. Convincing yourself to push through the discomfort is key. I also noticed when I tried to stretch out my time between refueling I started mentally breaking down. Keep fuel in the system and keep your blood sugar up is key to staying mentally tough and alert.

Congrats! I was going to do my 1st 50 miler this year, but a May marathon went very badly and I injured myself. I will try again this year.

I'm running the Miwok 100K the first weekend in May. It's coming up incredibly quick and I haven't done much in the way of preparing for it. Been doing a lot of crossfit recently so my strength is better then ever, but I really need to get some long runs in to re-acclimate my legs to that kind of work. For me there's just not really anything I can do to prepare my body to be running for 12-14 hours besides putting in some miles.

My wife and just bought our first house so that's taking up a lot of free time.

Good luck on those up coming races everyone.

Chad, have fun at Miwok! I ran it in 2011 on the 'old' course, great race and country. Watch out for hippies.

Thanks AS, I've run portions of the course before and it's pretty awesome, but there are a lot of hippies. I live in Sonoma County so I should be able to find some time to get out on the course and get feel for things since I'm some what local.

Trying to keep my goals alive to eventually run Western States. I didn't get drawn last year and they've really trimmed out a lot of races that used to be qualifiers. No more 50 milers accepted as qualifiers.

Not an ultra, but I'm planning on doing my first marathon this year. If anyone has suggestions for a good one in CO that is in late August I'm all ears. Either a marathon in the city or something around a 25 mile trail run in the mountains would work.

Miwok is cool. I paced my friend on the last 12 miles last year on the shortened 60k course. The Headlands, Muir woods, and Stinson are some of my favorite trails. I'm training with a trail Half marathon in April as my "A" goal, since mileage is way down and I'm trying to build back to a 50k training schedule. Drop me a line if you want to meet up for a mid week evening run in Annadel or Petaluma area.

Thanks, I'll definitely get in touch, especially once the time changes we'll have a bit more light left in the evenings. Annadel is one of my favorite places to run, and it's great being so close to home.

Rio Del Lago is back. I work medical at the last one. I know Julie was trying to get this race to be a qualifier for States. Good race, and great weather last time if ya want to try a 100. If ya run it I will cook ya an elk burger or an elk fajita at medical at Beals.

Remember that guy from She Rocks that you talk to about hunting the past two years? No Hands aid station, that's me.

Thanks, elk fajitas might just be what the doctor ordered on a run like that. Thanks for the heads up on the race, I'll jave to check it out next year.
