Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

Changing the trigger return spring and disconnector spring in a 2 stage trigger can produce a really light trigger.

I'm not sure if your Geissele has a captured disconnector spring like the Larue MBT or removable like a Schmid 2S. The Schmid 2S triggers are very easy to lighten. Most of the sub $100 or so 2S triggers are built by Schmid.

So @Thegman how do we change a LaRue MBT2S trigger spring for a lighter pull, and what spring to use?

I have 4 MBT2S and have shot well with 2 of them to 1000 yards in shooting classes, but a little less pull weight wouldn’t be a bad thing

Lightening the LaRue is more problematic than the Schmid.

The two springs to switch to lighter springs are the trigger return spring (trigger spring) and the disconnector spring. I would leave the hammer spring as is.

The trigger spring primarily affects the first stage. The disconnector spring primarily affects the second stage.

The problem with the LaRue is that the disconnector itself is captured by a peened pin. To pull out the disconnector in order to replace the disconnector spring, that pin would have to be drillied out and replaced with some other pin. I've not tackled that project yet with my LaRue.

On the Schmid made 2S triggers, the trigger pin itself holds the disconnector in place, so the disconnector can be removed very easily, just like on a mil-spec 1S trigger.

I used a lighter trigger spring which I think was from Kaw Valley, and actually just used a disconnector spring from a mil-spec 1S I wasn't using. That spring was a lot lighter than what the Schmid had. Lighter replacement spring kits are available though. Just have to experiment with them to get what you want.

The trigger spring is simple to replace on any of them, just find a reduced power trigger spring. The problem will be (and I'm not much help here) is getting out the LaRue disconnector for the most important part.

If I end up messing with my LaRue (it's not being used), I'll let you know what I come up with.

Thanks. Likely not worth it on the LaRue.

How does the Schmid compare?
I haven't messed with my LaRue for a long time (it's in the parts drawer), but I'd say the LaRue probably has a little cleaner break than my Schmid; it's a nice trigger. Trouble is, my LaRue is pretty heavy, and there's no simple way to lighten it. Modified, I prefer my Schmid over my LaRue. It's maybe a little less clean, but -a lot- lighter, like under 2# total pull weight.

When shooting the UL UL without a suppressor do youse guys utilize a muzzle brake? What kinds, brands, styles, and terminology? I have a 224 and 308 flash hider birdcage style. Just wanting to educate an old guy on the subject. Pretend I haven't had one before. Holes in the perimeter? Out the front? Gills? Thanks and Be Well Brothers, BG.

Good lord no! I don't even have barrel threads on my 6x45.

Rob you have a different situation than I do. I sometimes shoot suppressed. My son and I have found it good for us. He has hearing damage from being an SOC Marine and I have significant loss from old age and shooting thousands of 22LR in the early 70s. I was not taught the use of ear protection but caught on when I started shooting highpowered guns. Be Well Brother, BG.

I am quite concerned for TA. I hope they get the problems ironed out. The certainly fixed the problem that came up with my order. I hope Roam gets their new process worked out as well. Be well Brothers, Bearded Gnome.

What is the "new process for Roam" and is there an issue? The Roam lower is next on my list.

I put an OG-6S on my 6x45 w/ 16" X-caliber spaghetti barrel. I did do my load development in the winter, so that could be a factor, but I'm pretty sure it gave me some speed. I was at 2,600 fps with 90 gr ELD-X, and after spinning on the 6S the first few were over 2,700 fps. It settled down a little over the next dozen shots though. (17 rd string)

20260503_171633.jpgThese were my last 6 where I tried to shoot well seeing as how I'm new to light weight rifles. Just over an inch. These 6 averaged out more to 2,660 fps. I don't think I had one over 2,700 after the first 5 or 6 shots of 17 in this string.

I'm tickled with this setup. Sub 5 lbs all in and loaded. ~ 1 MOA accuracy, and mid to high 2,600's velocity. Extremely quiet and light recoil. Thanks for this thread haha

any body have any idea what x caliber fluting design would be the lightest weight reduction, doverpack what barrel are u running on your 22 arc? thanks
I've never had a barrel fluted, but their corkscrew fluting looks like it takes the longest cuts on any given barrel length. Assuming they make the same number of cuts at the same depth, that fluting would remove the most material.
