Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

Thanks for the input guys. This makes sense. Finishing up a 11.5 bolt gun build now and gather parts for one of these.
Be sure to post that sucker when you finish.

Makes me wonder how many of these are out there now over the last year and a half?

I’m doing a pin and weld can on this one. Ruger American 300blk and a YHM R9. Pinned and welded the factory collar to pull the barrel to have it cut.

Back to topic….

Ordered a carbon tube off Amazon and received in about two weeks so still getting shipments.

Smart way to do that. I never thought of doing it this way to ensure headspace
Thanks…I stole it haha. But yeah the smooth nut is a pain on these and it’s a poverty build so I didn’t want to buy a nut and gauges.

I haven’t had the TIG out on several years and forgot to turn on gas for the tac. It’s on the bottom though.

I was basically chipping carbon off the crown of the barrel like a dentist. But if anyone wants to see the wear on a gen 1(?) solo, after 2 hours of scrubbing and a little over 1k rounds….IMG_0228.jpegIMG_0227.jpegI took the “gas key” part off and stripped the whole bolt down for the first time. I think not cleaning it for a little over a year was a disservice to her. The grease really grabs a lot of junk in the action.

Looking for a trigger for my lightweight AR build, what do you guys like?

Not afraid to spend a little money, but love a good value too.

I like a crisp, single stage, that can be adjusted to 2ish lbs.

With you guys building ultralightweight rifles I figured you guys will have good triggers figured out.

Recommendations?

@Taudisio is using a 1S Rise 140 (I think) in his 6x45 and he can shoot that thing really well. That would be my first stop for a 1S.

I think @robtattoo is running a La Rue MBT (2S) and really likes that a lot.

I'm still mostly using the NFA poly trigger, but the best I have for the money is a Schmid NBT 2-stage with the trigger spring and disconnector spring replaced with lighter springs. With those springs, that trigger is about 1.1# 1S and 11oz 2S. Lots of people sell Schmid triggers under other names (PSA, Centurion, Zev, Aero, etc.). I know you want a 1S, but those can be found cheap enough they might be worth trying.

Seems we all pretty much use the same types of triggers other lightweight AR shooters gravitate toward.

And since buying it, I've switched out both my other ARs from Rise SS to MBTs. It's a far better trigger & the 2 stage took zero getting used to. It's set at 3lb total pull weight (they're listed heavier, but all 3 of mine trip without going over 3 on the scale)
Going forward, I won't use anything else.

I've gotten to the point where I only use Schmid Triggers, Larue and Geissele. For the money Larue is hard to beat. That new Schmid flat face is awesome and about $45. You can mess with the springs, like using JP springs to tune the weight.

If I had the coin, every trigger I own would be a trigger tech diamond. For 95%(ish) performance and 1/3rd the cost, the Rise has treated me great. It can be found for $75 if you shop around and wait for deals. I have a super semi-auto enhanced (SSA-E) in one of my gassers. Great trigger as well. Seemed like a disservice to put it in a bolt action though.

Can you link a source to the Schmid you're talking about? One thing I appreciate about them is how easy they are to tune with different springs. I think the Geissele is the same, but the Larue's disconnector spring is pinned in place, so it's not as "tunable".

Yeah! I have not tried their 2-stage, at the $90 or so they are I'd rather go with Larue but the single stages are sold under a bunch of names, ALG, Dirty Bird, Schmid, Gun Nutz, etc. If you see the "S" tool mark on a trigger, its a schmid.

Oh, okay. I thought you found a 2S for $45. You triggered my cheapskate alert. You can find the 2S under $70 at times and it's very "tunable".

I wish but that Larue MBT when theyre on sale at $89 is a smoking deal for that trigger.
Although they have the 2S on sale right now with that coupon at $76
