Yeah, but it doesn’t appear to be protruding inside the barrel, so I'm thinking I can still use a gas block or something.

Yes I would think that you're probably fine. I'd probably even try shooting it without a gas block. I don't think it would leak, but I guess could potentially start to back out after so many shots. With gas block I bet it'd be fine

Hey, anyone try breaking off a tap in a gas port to plug it...??

I broke one off on my bca barrel. Luckily I could get a vise grip on it to remove it.
