Ordered the aoka and tricer today, I’m really leaning towards getting the new swaro to go with it.

Got the aoka and tricer put together, I’m going to get sunwayphoto for it and probably another arca Swiss plate as the Tricer doesn’t come with one.

I notice I really have to crank on the pan lever to get it to hold, is anyone else experiencing this?

Without the sunway I’m showing a total weight of 16.61 oz.

Vortex High Country tripod with Vanguard PH-113V. 2.56#, tall enough to glass standing with an angled spotter, and I have almost no money into it.

This winter I took the tripod apart and replaced some screws with oversize ones, tightened up and cleaned the leg connections, and put thread locker on all those connections. Ready to go for a few more years.

So clarifying question, had anybody shot their rifle off the Aoka?
Got the pieces together to give The Aoka a try as a shooting rest at the range today, but in the end didn't even bother pulling the trigger. The little Aoka is just too flexy to be a worthwhile shooting rest. It's great for glassing with binos, or very light spotters...the stuff you use when you're packing like a weight weenie. I'll use my pack as a shooting rest first.

My Slik 624 CF tripod with the Spartan Davros head, however, works great for shooting. And the Slik will also hold a full size spotter great. But, it's a different kind of hunt when I bring that a long.

Added the Sunwayfoto so now the total weight is 22.15 oz = 1.38 lbs

Now I need to get the glass

The sirui am-225 is a pretty stout option if you don't extend the last leg section. Plenty sturdy for both shooting and glassing, from a seated (chair height) position, with the head at about 41 inches. I added an Artcise CB36 ball head and a DAC-X1 arca clamp for extra stability. Fairly inexpensive setup, but plenty sturdy if I'm not in uberlite mode. All up about 2lbs 1.4oz. It works great to shoot from the bench with the legs fully splayed out.

What range?
I’ve had no issues shooting prone or seated to 400 yds….didn’t notice any more wobble than any other prop

at any range....the tripod was more wobbly than using my backpack, so I didn't bother. In a real hunting situation I wouldn't bother to setup the tripod to shoot if I have a more stable option that takes less effort.

I don’t disagree with that. Prone off bag all day. But if I’m sitting hillside using spotter, that tripod with my bag as a rear rest becomes money.

This.Slik 624 from S&S except went one step further ,remove the bottom leg sections as I use it sitting almost always. I removed the handle entirely . I am also using it with a Pentax PF 65 angled scope. 2 pounds 4 oz. (tripod only).
I am using a similar set up. Slik 624. I replaced the center column with carbon fiber and swapped out all the hardware with Titanium. I am using a skeletonized pistol grip head from outdoorsmans.
I am intrigued with the idea of removing the bottom leg sections. Might have to try that.

I only use one tripod for many uses, it's more of a hunting tool and holds plenty of weight and it only weights 2.5 lbs.

I ended up ordering a swaro atc 17-40x56 and put it on the scale with the tripod if anyone is interested in weight.

I have a gitzo traveler 0 series. It’s 1.97lbs and noticeably more stable than my slik 634. It’s compact and fits in my pack better too.
Which model of Traveler 0 Series do you have?

I haven't been that impressed with my 634 and have been looking to replace it for awhile now. Gitzo being at the top of the list.

Thanks,

Jason

I have been running Leupold alpine CF425. Pretty close to what you are looking for out of the box: 2.0 lb, arca, ball head VS pan.

Works really well sitting and you can leave the center column behind. Heavy spotter or high winds it gets shaky.

I have range tested shooting off it. Have not shot at game yet but I would based on range test.

It’s the 0545T. You can find sales occasionally if you’re patient.
I bought it for a more compact size over my slik, but was actually more impressed by the stability. I assumed 2lbs of carbon was 2lbs of carbon no matter the brand, but there is something to the quality of gitzo.
It doesn’t extend enough to stand and glass for me, but I have a straight scope. I never stand anyways so I don’t mind.

That's what I suspected. Thanks for confirming.

I listened to the Rokcast on tripods today and Justin Crossley said that he likes his Gitzo for hunting too.
