Ultra Thin Suppressor Covers?

Why do you need a cover on a hunting rifle? I saw abrasion mentioned, that's not something I'd be worried about. Any other reasons?
We just started hunting with a suppressor recently.
Would just some gear wrap work for abrasion?
I wanted one to silence the high pitched metallic ring when working my way through thickets.

For hunting the cover removes the metallic noise that occurs when brush or branches hit the can. Probably not a big deal because an animal is likely aware something is coming but still that hollow metallic twang at the wrong moment pisses me off.
At the range it’s for mirage.

Yea, I can see that. We've only done one hunt with it in pretty open terrain, so we haven't had that experience yet.

Has anyone tried just using some gear wrap, or would it get too hot for that at the range?
