I'm looking at buying a super light tarp that can be pitched quickly and used for glassing or if bad weather rolls in. What are the best options out there?

Won’t feel that one in your pack.

Kifaru Sheep Tarp. I just bought one for the exact use you described. I just got it and added Lawson glowire for guylines. Sealing the seams tomorrow and it should be ready to go. With extra long guylines, it weighs 12.9 oz.

Sheep tarp here, too. I keep 10' 1.2mm Dyneema guylines with tracers on two corners. A basic lean-to goes up in about a minute with my trekking poles.

I just looked on Amazon and it doesn't appear that the trap I got is still around but you might do some looking for yourself. A couple years ago I purchased a 5x7 sil tarp off Amazon that weights 10.1 ounces with its carry bag for $13.00. I keep it in its bag so when its wet or bloody the mess is contained and not getting all over my back. The tarp dose everything I need it to do, rain cover when glassing, clean place to lay quarters and emergency shelter if needed.

HMG's 8'x10' flat tarp is great at under 10 oz - but the sticker shock is high. The durability is high though, so far.

If you are, Looking for something basic, jimmy tarps is great for silnylon. $50-100.

DCF is going to be have the weight and 3x the cost. $200-300

If you want something bombproof seek outside has a ground cloth for $45 that is under pound and made for 40-50 d material

If you want something multiuse look at an MLD poncho or gatewood cape by six moons. Poncho, glassing tarp and basic solo shelter all in one and still under a pound with guy lines and stakes.

Agree. At less than 4 oz. you wouldn't even know it's in the front pocket of your t-shirt (although you probably couldn't get it folded up that small), and you won't find that kind of coverage at that wt. anywhere.

What about the Seek Outside DST tarp? Been looking at that one. Looks pretty functional.

I keep a DCF poncho in my pack for that purpose. Some of the DCF models
won't pull over the back of full sized pack very well though in case you want
to walk with it on. It has held up well after about 40 nights. I also like that it will fold up flat and I can slip it anywhere in my pack.

Nice and versatile, not very light.

I like my dst. It is 19oz plus stakes and guylines and it starts pushing 2#. It is also big enough that I have to double it over to pitch it in some small spots. IMO it is a great tarp but a bit heavy and big for a “throw in your pack just in case / sunshade”
